The Education System in Malawi

The Education System in Malawi PDF Author: World Bank
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 0821381997
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 414

Book Description
'The Education System in Malawi', an Education Country Status Report (CSR), is a detailed analysis of the current status of the education sector in Malawi, the results of which have been validated by the government of Malawi. Its main purpose is to enable decision makers to orient national policy on the basis of a factual diagnosis of the overall education sector and to provide relevant analytical information for the dialogue between the government and development partners. The analysis incorporates data and information from multiple sources, such as school administrative surveys by the Ministry of Education, household surveys, and a tracer survey created especially for this study. This CSR, developed by a multi-ministerial national team supported by UNESCO P le de Dakar, the World Bank, and GTZ specialists, updates the previous one drawn up in 2003 and consists of eight chapters, including a chapter on higher education. The analysis provides key monitoring and evaluation inputs for the overall education sector, particularly under the framework of the implementation of the National Education Sector Plan.

Redressing Everyday Discrimination

Redressing Everyday Discrimination PDF Author: Karla Perez Portilla
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317421434
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
This book examines the harm that everyday discrimination can cause and proposes ways in which it can be redressed. Extreme forms of harmful expression, such as incitement to hatred, have been significantly addressed in law. Everyday generalised prejudice, negative stereotypes and gross under-representation of disadvantaged groups in mainstream media are, however, widely perceived as ‘normal’, and their criticism is regularly trivialised. In response, this book draws on critical and feminist theory in order to forge a theoretical analysis of the harm created through everyday discrimination. Arguing that anti-discrimination law can and should be extended as a tool to offer protection against the harm inflicted, the book goes on to consider both its limits, and possibilities, for redressing this discriminatory practice.

Restoring the Educational Dream. Rethinking Educational Transformation in Zimbabwe

Restoring the Educational Dream. Rethinking Educational Transformation in Zimbabwe PDF Author: Shizha, Edward
Publisher: Africa Institute of South Africa
ISBN: 0798304073
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
The role of education in human well being and social development cannot be overestimated. After a number of highly commendable policies on education in the first decade of independence, the education system in Zimbabwe has taken a tumble that needs both examining and rectifying. This volume analyses the challenges facing the education system in Zimbabwe and explores and scrutinises theoretical and practical possibilities for restoring the educational dream that was initiated at independence in 1980. The book is targeted at academics, scholars, college and university students, policy makers and other stakeholders and advocates a multi-pronged approach that must involve all stakeholders if educational retransformation, reconstruction and restoration are to be achieved. The authors provide a range of recommendations for a project that would restore the educational dream in Zimbabwe.
