Studies on the Design of a Room for Worship

Studies on the Design of a Room for Worship PDF Author: Albert Westley Spruill
Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 90

Book Description
The following thesis is an investigation into the design of spaces to be used for religious worship. It will look at a space created in terms of the historical context to which it will belong, and will study those elements which most appropriately communicate a place of worship for today. The design is specifically for a small chapel viewed through the requirements of the Catholic Church. It is based on the recent trends in Christian worship and more importantly on Catholic attitudes since Vatican II. The intention is to create a space into which many people may bring their god with them for worship, and also a space that might be comfortable for someone not familiar with the Church. It looks at the building in terms of a return to the early notion of worshiping in a house as early Christians did and at the same time it provides a path made up of a series of gateways through which one passes toward a sacred center.

REdesigning Churches

Book Description
As campus designer for Ginghamsburg Church, in Tipp City, Ohio, Kim Miller has observed that when a church gets serious about Jesus' call, there is always a design element to be addressed. Kim asserts that physical space transformation is simply a backdrop for authentic people transformation. Change the space and the opportunity and environment to change the world emerges. This comes as a fresh challenge for churches and ministries struggling to present a new look to match their relevant message. An emphasis on spatial design is an incarnation of Jesus’ call for new wineskins and is emerging as a key means to create community and the opportunity for transformation for a creative generation. This book is a practical guide for church leaders to transform their physical space into a ministry asset. Filled with pictures, tutorials and stories of spaces and lives transformed, Divine Rooms offers close-up snapshots of design-on-a-dime style looks, providing readers with usable ideas and how-tos that are supported by stories of real-life change from Ginghamsburg’s diverse community and the many congregations with which Kim consults.

Churches and Chapels

Book Description
Churches and Chapels: A Design and Development Guide is a reference for structure approach to design, development, or alteration of a building. The book deals with designing or altering traditional Western congregational halls and places of worship through a harmonious rending of religious worship and social action. Part I of the book focuses on background, presenting general ideas and influences that made today's churches. Questions such as adapt or replace and concerns about design are addressed. This part also examines the role of today's clients and the possible types of churches and chapels that will prove desirable and satisfactory. Part II discusses the design process covering the need for a feasibility study and agreed design development. The feasibility study addresses retention of parts of the structure, size of the structure, costs, and consideration of other building designs. Design analysis involves evaluation of the architectural considerations that include Western congregational halls, design ideas, check-ups, and sketching. The details of the scheme design contain precise information that will serve as basis for the client to modify or accept and for the authorities to approve. Throughout this book, case studies that are relevant for each topic are also given. This guide is useful for administration of local, parochial, and district congregations. This book can likewise be appreciated by architects and structural engineers.

A Design for a Christian Contemporary Worship Environment

A Design for a Christian Contemporary Worship Environment PDF Author: Karen D. Rowan

Book Description
ABSTRACT: As the church has grown over the years, worship services were added to accommodate the changing worship desires of the congregation. The fellowship hall in the church is used for one of the three worship services on any given Sunday morning. It is also used for a casual worship service on Friday nights. This space was not designed to be a sanctuary, but because it is used for that purpose, the space should be redeveloped to better incorporate worship. Qualitative research will be used to support the design decisions for this space.
