Electron Backscatter Diffraction in Materials Science

Electron Backscatter Diffraction in Materials Science PDF Author: Adam J. Schwartz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387881360
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 406

Book Description
Electron backscatter diffraction is a very powerful and relatively new materials characterization technique aimed at the determination of crystallographic texture, grain boundary character distributions, lattice strain, phase identification, and much more. The purpose of this book is to provide the fundamental basis for electron backscatter diffraction in materials science, the current state of both hardware and software, and illustrative examples of the applications of electron backscatter diffraction to a wide-range of materials including undeformed and deformed metals and alloys, ceramics, and superconductors. The text has been substantially revised from the first edition, and the authors have kept the format as close as possible to the first edition text. The new developments covered in this book include a more comphrensive coverage of the fundamentals not covered in the first edition or other books in the field, the advances in hardware and software since the first edition was published, and current examples of application of electron backscatter diffraction to solve challenging problems in materials science and condensed-matter physics.

Recrystallization and Grain Growth

Recrystallization and Grain Growth PDF Author: Brigitte Bacroix
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3035706387
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1472

Book Description
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). Recrystallization and grain growth, together with phase transformations such as precipitation, are the fundamental processes of microstructural evolution which take place during the thermomechanical processing of engineering materials. They are of major scientific interest and are of great importance in a wide range of industrial applications. One of the main goals of this two-volume set is to show how to cover the entire set of reactions governing recrystallization and grain growth during industrial processing – termed through process modelling.

Book Description
Recrystallization and grain growth, together with phase transformations such as precipitation, are the fundamental processes of microstructural evolution which take place during the thermomechanical processing of engineering materials. They are of major scientific interest and are of great importance in a wide range of industrial applications. One of the main goals of this two-volume set is to show how to cover the entire set of reactions governing recrystallization and grain growth during industrial processing - termed through process modelling. At the same time, it is important to improve the understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in transformations such as nucleation during recrystallization, grain boundary migration under the influence of various forces, and boundary interactions with solute atoms and particles. In this area, modelling plays a major - but happily not yet exclusive - role. These fundamental aspects are also treated in detail in this comprehensive work. There are also a number of papers which deal with new techniques such as laser ultrasonics and high-energy X-ray methods for characterizing deformation structures, recrystallization and grain growth during (in situ) heat treatment. The accent is increasingly placed on 3D observations of all types of crystalline solids, i.e. metals, minerals, ceramics - and now polymers. The reader will be able to find within these two volumes a wealth of up-to-date papers describing current issues, concepts, techniques and results which will, in turn, improve his understanding of recrystallization and grain growth.
