Book Description
The Old Duval Cemetery was an African American Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. It was annexed into the Old City Cemetery shortly after the Civil War. The oldest marker in the cemetery is that of Caesar Richardson who died in April 1725 at age 27. The records in this ledger are of taxes paid for the management of the cemetery and care of the grounds. Back taxes were paid around the time of someone’s death in the family associated with the lot. Mr. Louis Myers, Sr. managed the collecting and recording of tax payments. The yearly fee was around $1.00. The records in this volume span the time frame between the 1920s through the 1950s and include burial dates for each individual.
