Book Description
Excerpt from Recollections of My Fifty Years Hunting and FishingThe better reason mayhap Why I have undertaken to tell these stories is that in the years to come com parison can be made with the past and future, and even the contrast of today with those days I have written about is so great that the younger sportsman will marvel. Then again the history of the brook trout in Michigan should be preserved. We have much writ ten about the grayling; nothing of the introduction of the brook trout; and how few anglers of today know that this fish was not native to the streams of the Lower Peninsula where now it is found. Little has before been written about hunting the Michigan wild turkey. I have not said much of the wild pigeon for I covered that subject about as fully as I could in The Passenger Pigeon, a book written by me in 1907.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Fifty Years Afield and Ten Seasons
Author: Thomas Holt
Publisher: Publishamerica Incorporated
ISBN: 9781424121687
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 220
Book Description
This autobiography of my memoirs is intended to entertain the outdoorsman with short stories of hunting and fishing adventures. This writing is in no way the extent of these true tales and these are only a few of the highlights and the most interesting. With due respect to the reader and the wildlife that are mentioned on the pages, please understand the importance of conservation. Sportsmanship is the respect of the law, the animals, and our fellow outdoorsmen. It is in no way sporting to take the life of an animal in play. We are responsible to them, and our actions will last forever within ourselves and the eyes and minds of our fellow man. We will pay the price of neglect, waste, and unguided conservation. Let us know what is right, and allow us to be the best judges that we can be and to govern our actions while in the wilderness. The gift is ours to give to those who follow; we are the examples. My father once told me, aLeave no sign in the wilderness that you have been there.a

Restoring America's Wildlife, 1937-1987
Author: Harmon Kallman
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 412
Book Description
Fittingly, the Act's chief sponsors were a Senator from Nevada, Key Pittman, and a Representative from Virginia, A. Willis Robertson. The Pittman-Robertson Act, as it came to be called, sped through Congress and was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on September 2, 1937. From a modest beginning, the Pittman-Robertson program has grown with the economy and the human population of our country. By now it has channeled nearly $1.7 billion in Federal excise tax receipts, augmented by some $600 million from the States, into activities to restore wildlife. The projects include State acquisition of acreage needed to bring wildlife back, research into wildlife requirements and problems, active management of habitats, and development of scientific ways to enable wildlife and people to share our land in harmony. The program has strengthened State governments and built wildlife management into a respected profession.
