Rapidity Gaps and Hard Diffraction at the Tevatron

Book Description
Preliminary results on jet production with rapidity gaps in p{anti p} collisions are presented for both D0 and CDF. An excess of events with a forward rapidity gap is observed at both (square root)s=1800 GeV and 630 GeV, consistent with a hard single diffractive process. The first evidence for diffractive W production is presented. A class of events with two forward gaps and central dijets is observed at (square root)s=1800 GeV, a topology that is consistent with hard double pomeron exchange. Kinematic properties of events containing rapidity gaps are measured.

Book Description
Results of rapidity gap physics in the CDF and DO Collaborations are presented. In particular, hard diffraction (diffractive dijet and heavy flavor quark production, dijet production in Double Pomeron Exchange) and color-singlet exchange are described.

Book Description
Hard diffraction in events with dijets and rapidity gaps has been studied by D0 and CDF for three processes: hard color singlet exchange, hard single diffraction, and hard double pomeron exchange, using Tevatron {anti p}p data at √s = 630 GeV and 1.8 TeV. Measurements of rates, [eta], E{sub T} and √s dependencies are presented and comparisons made with predictions of several models.

Book Description
Latest results on jet production with rapidity gaps at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are presented. Jet production via color-singlet exchange at high momenta transfer is observed as a class of events with low particle multiplicity (or rapidity gaps) between the two highest transverse energy jets. The particle multiplicity in various regions, and the dependencies on jet pseudorapidity separation and jet transverse energy are studied for these events. Results from two classes of dijet events with one or two forward rapidity gaps are also presented. The topology of these events is consistent with expectations for hard single diffraction and hard double pomeron exchange processes, respectively.

Book Description
Results on hard diffraction from CDF are reviewed and compared with predictions based on the diffractive structure function of the proton measured in deep inelastic scattering at HERA. The predictions are generally larger than the measured rates by a factor of (approximately) 6, suggesting a breakdown of conventional factorization. Correct predictions are obtained by scaling the rapidity gap probability distribution of the diffractive structure function to the total integrated gap probability. The scaling of the gap probability is traced back to the pomeron flux renormalization hypothesis, which was introduced to unitarize the soft diffraction amplitude.

High-Energy Particle Diffraction

High-Energy Particle Diffraction PDF Author: Vincenzo Barone
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662047241
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 414

Book Description
A comprehensive and up-to-date overview of soft and hard diffraction processes in strong interaction physics. The first part covers soft hadron—hadron scattering in a complete and mature presentation. It can be used as a textbook in particle physics classes. Chapters 8-11 address graduate students as well as researchers, covering the "new diffraction": the pomeron in QCD, low-x physics, diffractive deep inelastic scattering and related processes.

Book Description
We present new evidence for events with a rapidity gap between jets in {bar p}-p collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV based on data collected by triggering the Collider Detector at Fermilab on two high transverse momentum forward jets and results of a search for diffractive W" and dijet production where diffraction is tagged by the rapidity gap technique. We also present the results of a search for diffractive dijets using data collected by triggering on a very forward particle in the recently installed roman-pot detectors. The dijet events exhibit additional diffractive characteristics such as rapidity gaps and boosted center of mass system, however the recoil antiproton measured in the roman-pots is in a regime in which the non- pomeron contribution is significant.

Forward Physics And Luminosity Determination At Lhc

Forward Physics And Luminosity Determination At Lhc PDF Author: Katri Huitu

Book Description
Recently there has been much interest in studying events with tagged forward protons at the existing and forthcoming hadronic colliders, the Tevatron and the LHC. These studies not only allow one to monitor the luminosity of the colliding protons with high accuracy but also provide new ways of investigating the subtle issues of QCD dynamics and searches for the manifestations of new physics. This book reviews the state of the art of forward physics measurements and the theoretical development. It will catalyze many new approaches within the framework of the extensive physics programme of the LHC. This in turn will stimulate closer contact between the LHC experiments as well as between the experimentalists and the theorists to maximize the potenntial of LHC physics.
