Book Description
Secondary nonlinear optical effects following parametric four wave mixing in sodium vapor are investigated. The generated ultraviolet radiation induces stimulated Raman scattering and other four wave mixing process. Population transfer due to Raman transitions strongly influences the phase matching conditions for the primary mixing process. Pulse shortening and a reduction in conversion efficiency are observed. 8 refs., 3 figs.

Book Description
The equations for plane-wave steady-state propagation of n fields interacting via four wave processes in a Raman medium have been known since at least 1962. Complete analytic solutions have only been found for the process of harmonic generation. However, solutions have been obtained in the gain regime assuming zero pump depletion. Assuming all fields satisfy the phase matching condition, general analytic solutions to these equations have been found. The solutions are complete in that they describe both pump depletion and saturation. Some example problems will be studied.

Book Description
Since the 3rd edition appeared, a fast evolution of the field has occurred. The fourth edition of this classic work provides an up-to-date account of the nonlinear phenomena occurring inside optical fibers. The contents include such important topics as self- and cross-phase modulation, stimulated Raman and Brillouin scattering, four-wave mixing, modulation instability, and optical solitons. Many new figures have been added to help illustrate the concepts discussed in the book. New to this edition are chapters on highly nonlinear fibers and and the novel nonlinear effects that have been observed in these fibers since 2000. Such a chapter should be of interest to people in the field of new wavelengths generation, which has potential application in medical diagnosis and treatments, spectroscopy, new wavelength lasers and light sources, etc. Continues to be industry bestseller providing unique source of comprehensive coverage on the subject of nonlinear fiber optics Fourth Edition is a completely up-to-date treatment of the nonlinear phenomena occurring inside optical fibers Includes 2 NEW CHAPTERS on the properties of highly nonlinear fibers and their novel nonlinear effects

Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy

Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy PDF Author: Ji-Xin Cheng
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323903371
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 612

Book Description
Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy: Techniques and Applications describes innovations in instrumentation, data science, chemical probe development, and various applications enabled by a state-of-the-art stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscope. Beginning by introducing the history of SRS, this book is composed of seven parts in depth including instrumentation strategies that have pushed the physical limits of SRS microscopy, vibrational probes (which increased the SRS imaging functionality), data science methods, and recent efforts in miniaturization. This rapidly growing field needs a comprehensive resource that brings together the current knowledge on the topic, and this book does just that. Researchers who need to know the requirements for all aspects of the instrumentation as well as the requirements of different imaging applications (such as different types of biological tissue) will benefit enormously from the examples of successful demonstrations of SRS imaging in the book. Led by Editor-in-Chief Ji-Xin Cheng, a pioneer in coherent Raman scattering microscopy, the editorial team has brought together various experts on each aspect of SRS imaging from around the world to provide an authoritative guide to this increasingly important imaging technique. This book is a comprehensive reference for researchers, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and engineers. - Includes every aspect from theoretic reviews of SRS spectroscopy to innovations in instrumentation and current applications of SRS microscopy - Provides copious visual elements that illustrate key information, such as SRS images of various biological samples and instrument diagrams and schematics - Edited by leading experts of SRS microscopy, with each chapter written by experts in their given topics

Coherent Control of Four-Wave Mixing

Coherent Control of Four-Wave Mixing PDF Author: Yanpeng Zhang
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642191150
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 419

Book Description
"Coherent Control of Four-Wave Mixing" discusses the frequency, temporal and spatial domain interplays of four-wave mixing (FWM) processes induced by atomic coherence in multi-level atomic systems. It covers topics in five major areas: the ultrafast FWM polarization beats due to interactions between multi-color laser beams and multi-level media; coexisting Raman-Rayleigh-Brillouin-enhanced polarization beats due to color-locking noisy field correlations; FWM processes with different kinds of dual-dressed schemes in ultra-thin, micrometer and long atomic cells; temporal and spatial interference between FWM and six-wave mixing (SWM) signals in multi-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) media; spatial displacements and splitting of the probe and generated FWM beams, as well as the observations of gap soliton trains, vortex solitons, and stable multicomponent vector solitons in the FWM signals. The book is intended for scientists, researchers, advanced undergraduate and graduate students in Nonlinear Optics. Dr. Yanpeng Zhang is a professor and Zhiqiang Nie is a Ph. D. student at the Key Laboratory for Physical Electronics and Devices of the Ministry of Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. Dr. Min Xiao is a professor of physics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, U.S.A.

Coherent Raman Spectroscopy

Coherent Raman Spectroscopy PDF Author: Gerd Marowsky
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642771947
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 316

Book Description
Progress made during the last few years in nonlinear optics and quantum electronics has significantly increased our understanding of the interactionbetween light and matter. Of great importance are third-order nonlinear Raman techniques such as CARS, RIKES, SRS, and DFWM. This book reflects the state of the art in coherent Raman spectroscopy. The contributions together provide an overview of the various Raman techniques that make available information about the fine structure of molecular energy levels, the collisional dynamics of atoms and molecules, and processes of internal energy disipation. Some of the contributions also report on the application of local, nonperturbing diagnosic methods forthe determination of parameters such as composition, temperature, density, velocity, and energy distribution between the internal degrees of freedom.
