Book Description
Kirsten Veiss is setting a record for bad days: She’s broke, lost in rural Michigan, sunburned, and without transportation after her van hits a deer. When she hears a nearby radio personality making fun of the classical music she loves, it’s the last straw. Aaron Debolt just wants to bring classical to a wider audience, and he thinks a shock jock approach might do it. But he’s shocked himself when a sunburned, wild-eyed redhead bursts into the radio station late at night, brandishing—a tailpipe. Soon Aaron has his hands full in more ways than one, and Kirsten has a temporary on-air job under the name Radio Red. Now all they have to do is prove she’s not the one sabotaging the station’s operation.

Book Description
Bob Bjorner is the last of the "red hot lefties" at radio station KRED in Berkeley, Calif. His paranoia makes him bring his personal lock to keep intruders out of the studio while he's on the air--but they get to him anyway! He opens his lunch, takes his first mouthful of sashimi, and falls over dead. Homicide detective Marvia Plum scrambles to the station in time to see broadcasters, engineers, and administrators trying to figure out what to do next. Bob Bjorner, Radio Red himself, is clearly visible through the window between the on-air studio and the control room--and nobody can get to him! THE RADIO RED KILLER is the most baffling--and fascinating!--case yet in Richard A. Lupoff's irresistable "Killer" mystery series.

A Shadow of Red

A Shadow of Red PDF Author: David Everitt
Publisher: Ivan R. Dee Publisher
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 440

Book Description
Tracing the mayhem caused by a handful of anti-Communist watchdogs who in 1950 created the blacklist in radio and TV, David Everitt makes clear that the conflict over free speech was not a simplistic morality tale of persecutors and the persecuted, as routinely portrayed. The blacklisters, though excessive and destructive, were not deluded hunters of an imaginary menace. A Shadow of Red is a cautionary tale about civil liberties in a time of emergency, and a vivid example of the polarized political battle over who controls the media, a battle that continues to this day.

A Critical History of Television's The Red Skelton Show, 1951-1971

A Critical History of Television's The Red Skelton Show, 1951-1971 PDF Author: Wesley Hyatt
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 9780786417322
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 206

Book Description
The Red Skelton Show was on the air for 20 years, the longest-running primetime network comedy variety series on television. It was a top 10 series for nine years—an accomplishment surpassed only by Gunsmoke and Home Improvement. The series has a few unimpressive achievements too, such as becoming the first top 10 series to be cancelled by a network. Here is the history of The Red Skelton Show, beginning with its debut in 1951, one of the top five that year. The show then declined in popularity, moved from CBS to NBC in 1953, slowly rose back to the top. In its glory days of the 1960s it became an hour long show and finished at number two in two different years. The cancellation of the show by CBS in 1970 despite its place in the top 10 was a surprise; the last season back with NBC was a failure. Appendices list cast and crew credits and special guests by season, and offer information on the post–Red Skelton lives of many of the principal players.
