Reformers to Radicals

Reformers to Radicals PDF Author: Thomas Kiffmeyer
Publisher: University Press of Kentucky
ISBN: 0813138957
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 259

Book Description
A “well researched and vigorously written” account of social activism, radical politics, and the failed War on Poverty in 1960s Appalachia (Journal of American History). In 1964, a group of young social activists formed the Appalachian Volunteers with the intention of eradicating poverty in eastern Kentucky and the rest of the Southern mountains. In Reformers to Radicals, author Thomas Kiffmeyer documents the history of this organization as their youthful enthusiasm led to radicalism and controversy. These reformers sought to improve the lives of the Appalachian poor while making strides toward economic change in the region. Their efforts included refurbishing schools and homes and offering educational opportunities. But in time, these volunteers faced nationwide accusations that they were “seditious” and “un-American.” After losing the support of the federal and state governments and of many Appalachian people, the group to disband in 1970. Reformers to Radicals examines the various factors that led to the Appalachian Volunteers’ ultimate failure, from infighting within their ranks to tensions with the very people they sought to help. It chronicles a critical era in Appalachian history and investigates the impact the 1960s' reform attitude on the region.

American Heroes in the Fight Against Radical Islam

American Heroes in the Fight Against Radical Islam PDF Author: Oliver North
Publisher: B&H Publishing Group
ISBN: 0805447113
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
What is a Hero? New York Times best-selling author Oliver North says, "Real heroes are selfless. Those who serve America in harm's way in the war against radical Islam have that quality in abundance. And so do their families and loved ones at home. Yet, they rarely get the attention or coverage they deserve. "Despite the way they are presented by too many in the press and politics, the men and women in uniform today are overwhelmingly good. I never cease to be amazed at the self-discipline of these brave young Americans. They can endure the adrenaline-pumping violence of an enemy engagement, and then, just minutes later, help school children get safely to their classes . . . No nation--ours included--has ever had a military force better than the one we have today. I'm proud of them. You should be too." In American Heroes (a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post best seller), North offers an inspiring, first-hand account of the extraordinary men and women defending America against radical Islamic terror from his perspective as a forty year member of the United States military, a member of the National Security Council staff and serving as the U.S. government's counter-terrorism coordinator from 1983-1986. This patriotic book also pulls in new reports and exclusive full-color photographs from War Stories, the award-winning FOX News Channel series hosted by North. Endorsements "Oliver North has spent his life among America's heroes. This book with its moving words and powerful images will inspire patriots, reassure the faint of heart, and infuriate our nation's adversaries. These are our heroes, they deserve to have their story told, and no one is better to tell it than Col. North, because when it comes to heroes, it takes one to know one. This book is a treasure." --Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and New York Times bestselling author of Real Change "Ollie North has 'been there--done that' with the American heroes who are winning the war against radical Islamic terror. This book is a magnificent tribute to the warriors who defend us all." --Sean Hannity, host of The Sean Hannity Show and FOX News Channel's Hannity & Colmes

Book Description
“This book is a reflection of a warrior putting into practice all that she has learned, the moment when knowledge turns into wisdom, in order to heal a heart that is not afraid to love.” — Don Miguel Ruiz Jr, author of The Mastery of Self & The Five Levels of Attachment In this continuation of the Warrior Goddess path, author HeatherAsh Amara shares a revolutionary new method to help you reconnect with your sense of authenticity and power. Too often we allow old narratives—about past failures, broken relationships, or damaging experiences—to define us, depleting our joy, limiting our passion, and whispering the poisonous lie that we are not enough. The Warrior Heart Practice is a revolutionary new method that will help you reevaluate those well-worn narratives and shift your thinking and intentions in a new, empowered way. Based on the four divisions of the heart, the practice leads you forward through the four chambers of experience—Feeling, Story, Truth, Intent—gently questioning your own assumptions along the way, and then back through the chambers in the reverse, so that you emerge armed with a clear understanding of your situation and a new sense of purpose and power. For those who have loved and lived Warrior Goddess Training and readers who are searching for a new freedom, The Warrior Heart Practice offers an inner revolution and a new path towards freedom.
