Consensual Processes
Author: Enrique Herrera-Viedma
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 364220533X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 426
Book Description
The word consensus has been frequently used for centuries, perhaps millenia. People have always deemed it important that decisions having a long lasting impact on groups, countries or even civilizations be arrived at in a consensual manner. Undoubtedly the complexity of modern world in all its social, technological, economic and cultural dimensions has created new environments where consensus is regarded desirable. Consensus typically denotes a state of agreement prevailing in a group of agents, human or software. In the strict sense of the term, consensus means that the agreement be unanimous. Since such a state is often unreachable or even unnecessary, other less demanding consensus-related notions have been introduced. These typically involve some graded, partial or imprecise concepts. The contributions to this volume define and utilize such less demanding - and thus at the same time more general - notions of consensus. However, consensus can also refer to a process whereby the state of agreement is reached. Again this state can be something less stringent than a complete unanimity of all agents regarding all options. The process may involve modifications, resolutions and /or mitigations of the views or inputs of individuals or software agents in order to achieve the state of consensus understood in the more general sense. The consensus reaching processes call for some soft computational approaches, methods and techniques, notably fuzzy and possibilistic ones. These are needed to accommodate the imprecision in the very meaning of some basic concepts utilized in the definition of consensus as a state of agreement and as a process whereby this state is to be reached. The overall aim of this volume is to provide a comprehensive overview and analysis of the issues related to consensus states and consensual processes.

Imprecision and Uncertainty in Information Representation and Processing
Author: Plamen Angelov
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319263021
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 405
Book Description
The book offers a comprehensive and timely overview of advanced mathematical tools for both uncertainty analysis and modeling of parallel processes, with a special emphasis on intuitionistic fuzzy sets and generalized nets. The different chapters, written by active researchers in their respective areas, are structured to provide a coherent picture of this interdisciplinary yet still evolving field of science. They describe key tools and give practical insights into and research perspectives on the use of Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets and logic, and generalized nets for describing and dealing with uncertainty in different areas of science, technology and business, in a single, to date unique book. Here, readers find theoretical chapters, dealing with intuitionistic fuzzy operators, membership functions and algorithms, among other topics, as well as application-oriented chapters, reporting on the implementation of methods and relevant case studies in management science, the IT industry, medicine and/or education. With this book, the editors wish to pay homage to Professor Krassimir Todorov Atanassov for his pioneering work on both generalized nets and intuitionistic fuzzy set.

Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319212095
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 279
Book Description
This book contains a collection of innovative chapters emanating from topics raised during the 5th KES International Conference on Intelligent Decision Technologies (IDT), held during 2013 at Sesimbra, Portugal. The authors were invited to expand their original papers into a plethora of innovative chapters espousing IDT methodologies and applications. This book documents leading-edge contributions, representing advances in Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering System. It acknowledges that researchers recognize that society is familiar with modern Advanced Information Processing and increasingly expect richer IDT systems. Each chapter concentrates on the theory, design, development, implementation, testing or evaluation of IDT techniques or applications. Anyone that wants to work with IDT or simply process knowledge should consider reading one or more chapters and focus on their technique of choice. Most readers will benefit from reading additional chapters to access alternative technique that often represent alternative approaches. This book is suitable for anyone interested in or already working with IDT or Intelligent Decision Support Systems. It is also suitable for students and researchers seeking to learn more about modern Artificial Intelligence and Computational Intelligence techniques that support decision-making in modern computer systems.

Publisher: Corwin Press
ISBN: 9780761938392
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 220
Book Description
Intended for the beginning principal and the principal's mentor, this book explores the duties in the principal's first year on the job from the viewpoint of both the principal and the mentor. It emphasizes organization during the first-year principalship; tasks to be accomplished each month; leading versus managing and how both can benefit the school; communication and working with people; and defining the mentoring relationship. The book is organized into four parts. Part I, "Defining the Job," focuses on the importance of developing a conceptual model of the principalship. This part includes information about the ISLLC Standards, which are used as a conceptual module of the principalship. Part II, "Doing the Job," provides a chronological listing of tasks that principals encounter during the course of the school year. The chronological perspective presents a traditional 9-month school year. Part III, "Deciphering the Job," presents a list of generalized conclusions and lessons learned with broad-based application to the challenges of being a school leader. Part IV, "Mentoring the Mentor," addresses issues that first-time principal mentors need to consider. The book contains many useful checklists, sample forms, rubrics, and activities. (WFA).
