ISBN: 9780073211978
Category : Foreign Language Study

Lecturas literarias shares same methodology, design, icons, and so forth as Punto y aparte. Each reading is accompanied by pre- and post-reading activities as well as by role-playing, creative-writing, and other follow-up activities that students can use to expand on the themes presented in each reading. Students are exposed to literary terminology. With each reading, a different aspect of literary analysis is presented (e.g., the use of dialogue, tone, narrative voice). Students are then asked to apply this new knowledge in a deeper analysis of the reading as a creative work.

A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish

A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish PDF Author: John Butt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461583683
Category : Foreign Language Study
Languages : en
Pages : 533

Book Description
(abridged and revised) This reference grammar offers intermediate and advanced students a reason ably comprehensive guide to the morphology and syntax of educated speech and plain prose in Spain and Latin America at the end of the twentieth century. Spanish is the main, usually the sole official language of twenty-one countries,} and it is set fair to overtake English by the year 2000 in numbers 2 of native speakers. This vast geographical and political diversity ensures that Spanish is a good deal less unified than French, German or even English, the latter more or less internationally standardized according to either American or British norms. Until the 1960s, the criteria of internationally correct Spanish were dictated by the Real Academia Espanola, but the prestige of this institution has now sunk so low that its most solemn decrees are hardly taken seriously - witness the fate of the spelling reforms listed in the Nuevas normas de prosodia y ortograjia, which were supposed to come into force in all Spanish-speaking countries in 1959 and, nearly forty years later, are still selectively ignored by publishers and literate persons everywhere. The fact is that in Spanish 'correctness' is nowadays decided, as it is in all living languages, by the consensus of native speakers; but consensus about linguistic usage is obviously difficult to achieve between more than twenty independent, widely scattered and sometimes mutually hostile countries. Peninsular Spanish is itself in flux.

Book Description
Punto y aparte: Spanish in Review, Moving Toward Fluency places communicative goals at the forefront of the intermediate Spanish course so students don't just learn about the language, they learn how to use the language in an authentic and natural way that allows students to express themselves with increasing fluency and accuracy in real-world settings. The proven qualities of Punto y aparte include: - a focus on seven core communicative functions (called out with icons throughout the program) and the grammatical structures that support them. These functions are constantly recycled throughout the program to reflect the real-life use of language. - meaningful communicative practice through writing and speaking activities presented in a real-world context. In Connect, our composition and peer editing tools along with our Blackboard IM and VoiceBoard tools allow students the opportunity to have communicative practice with their peers outside the classroom as well. Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need, when they need it, and how they need it, so that your class time is more engaging and effective. - constant recycling of grammar and vocabulary throughout the program using the seven communicative functions, Para repasar boxes, Pruebas diagnósticas, and the LearnSmart suite of tools. - cultural content in the form of new ¡Cuéntennos! videos and the ¡Viaje conmigo a... videos as well as readings on art, music and history serve to recycle grammar and vocabulary and to enrich students' experience of language learning and provide a window into Spanish-speaking cultures. These features support the core goals of the intermediate Spanish course and put students on a successful path from simple utterances to more extensive discourse, from sentence-level to paragraph length expression. *Connect Spanish, including but not limited to the workbook/lab manual, LearnSmart, the video program, and chat tools, is sold separately and does not come automatically with the purchase of the textbook.

Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning

Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning PDF Author: Fernando Rubio
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1527566471
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 220

Book Description
Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning deals with a topic which has been given surprisingly little attention in Second and Foreign Language Acquisition studies. Although there are several studies dealing with general education, this volume addresses the need to take self-esteem into consideration in the language classroom and adopts both theoretical/research and practical perspectives, with the hope of being useful for both researchers and practitioners. The book is organized into three main parts. Part I serves as an introduction to self-esteem. Part II reports on the existing literature about the theory and research dealing with self-esteem and foreign language learning, and Part III includes procedures for implementation and activities for classroom applications. Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning is edited by Fernando Rubio (PhD.), a researcher and teacher at the University of Huelva in Spain. Most of the chapters have been written by members of the research group “Affective factors in language learning”, which has also published a book on Multiple Intelligences and the teaching of English (Dr. Jane Arnold, Dr. Carmen Fonseca, etc.). There are two outside contributions: one is by Andrew Wright, author of numerous publications for language teachers, and the other by Veronica de Andrés, teacher trainer from the University of El Salvador (Argentina) and member of the executive board of the International Council for Self-Esteem. Dr. Elaine Horwitz of the University of Texas has contributed a preface.

Workbook/Laboratory Manual for Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition

Workbook/Laboratory Manual for Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition PDF Author: Sharon Foerster
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Education
ISBN: 9780077394486
Category : Foreign Language Study
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition moves your students beyond learning about the Spanish language to actually using their Spanish in natural, meaningful contexts. With Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition students develop more confidence for communication and begin to think critically about language and culture. This is achieved by focusing on seven communicative functions and the grammar structures that support them. These communicative functions appear at the beginning of the text and are recycled throughout, providing opportunities for review in different contexts. Since this is not the typical linear march through grammar one structure at a time, students are able to begin using language in a way that is creative and allows for natural language production. As the title suggests, Punto y aparte: Expanded Edition puts students on a successful path from simple phrases to more extensive, paragraph-length discourse. Built on the successful foundation of Punto y aparte, the best-selling brief intermediate-level text, the Expanded Edition offers more grammar practice, expanded vocabulary, and a greater variety of cultural contexts, providing ample material for one-year intermediate courses, while maintaining the flexibility to be used in shorter courses as well. Because students come to Intermediate Spanish with disparate levels of language learning experience and proficiency, more challenging grammar receives less focus in the first half of the program, allowing instructors to tailor the program to their course depending on student level.
