Minimum Reinforcement in Concrete Members
Author: A. Carpinteri
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080536565
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 213
Book Description
The ESIS-Technical Committee 9 on Concrete was established in 1990 and has met seven times. A proposal was put to European and extra-European laboratories entitled "Scale effects and transitional failure phenomena of reinforced concrete beams in flexure" which lead to several positive responses. The central topic discussed by the committee was that of the minimum reinforcement in concrete members. The minimum amount of reinforcement is defined as that for which "peak load at first concrete cracking" and "ultimate load after steel yielding" are equal. In this way, any brittle behaviour is avoided as well as any localized failure, if the member is not over-reinforced. In other words, there is a reinforcement percentage range, depending on the size-scale, within which the plastic limit analysis may be applied with its static and kinematic theorems.Carpinteri, Ferro, Bosco and El-Katieb propose a LEFM model, according to which reinforcement reactions are applied directly on the crack surfaces and a compatibility condition is locally imposed on the crack opening displacement in correspondence with the reinforcement. The theoretical model is found to provide a satisfactory estimate of the minimum percentage of reinforcement that depends on the scale and enables the element in flexure to prevent brittle failure.

Model Code 2010 - Final draft
Author: fib Fédération internationale du béton
Publisher: fib Fédération internationale du béton
ISBN: 288394105X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 357
Book Description
The objectives of MC2010 are to (a) serve as a basis for future codes for concrete structures, and (b) present new developments with regard to concrete structures, structural materials and new ideas in order to achieve optimum behaviour. MC2010 includes the whole life cycle of a concrete structure, from design and construction to conservation (assessment, maintenance, strengthening) and dismantlement, in one code for buildings, bridges and other civil engineering structures. Design is largely based on performance requirements. The chapter on materials is extended with new types of concrete and reinforcement (such as fibres and non-metallic reinforcements). The fib Model Code 2010 also gives corresponding explanations in a separate column of the document. Additionally, MC2010 is supported by background documents that have already been (or will soon be) published in fib bulletins and journal articles. MC2010 is now the most comprehensive code on concrete structures, including their complete life cycle: conceptual design, dimensioning, construction, conservation and dismantlement.

Are you tired of all the clutter around you? Are you finally realizing that owning more stuff does not equate to happiness? Our modern world has put us in a place where we are constantly on the run. We think that we need to keep up with our neighbors, that we need to purchase as many items as possible in order to be happy. Nothing could be further from the truth. With minimalism, you can be happy without purchasing all these items. In fact, the less you have, the better! Here is what you will learn in this book:- • The one thing that could ruin your journey to Minimalism • What is Minimalism? • The Advantages of Using Minimalism in Your Life • Easy Ways to Start Using Minimalism In Your Life • The Problem with Clutter • Going Through Your Home and Decluttering • How to Maintain a Minimalist Home • Minimalism and Your Health • The Secret to applying Minimalism without losing your friends • Money management tips for a successful Minimalist lifestyle • Can Managing Technology Help You on Your Minimalist Lifestyle? • How to Cultivate a Minimalist Mindset • Starting with Your Own Stuff • Different Methods of Organizing and Decluttering That You Can Use • Tips to Help You Implement Minimalism Into Your Daily Life for the Long Term • The only thing you need to do daily for your Minimalism lifestyle to be a success long term! Enhancing Building Performance
Author: Shauna Mallory-Hill
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470657596
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 360
Book Description
Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) informs and enhances the usability and sustainability of building designs with lessons learned from evaluation of building performance throughout the building life cycle, from initial planning through occupancy to adaptive re-use. A key feature of BPE is that it examines design and technical performance of buildings alongside human performance criteria. That is, it seeks to examine facilities in order to determine whether they will work for the people that will use and occupy them. Rigorous BPE helps to improve design practice by providing feedback on the effectiveness of the choices made about the building to ensure that its design is optimised for stakeholders’ uses. The overarching theme for Enhancing Building Performance is to present the next generation of BPE work. The book provides an updated systematic approach for BPE as well as chapters written by experts from around the world who demonstrate how to apply BPE to enhance building design. Topics covered include: evidence-based and integrative design processes, evaluation methods and tools, and education and knowledge transfer. In addition, case studies provide specific examples of how BPE has been used to study such things as the impact of workplace design on human productivity and innovation. Written primarily for design professionals and facility managers who wish to use BPE to deliver improved building performance that is responsive to the needs of stakeholders, Enhancing Building Performance will also be of great value to researchers and students across a range of architecture and construction disciplines.
