End-to-End Quality of Service

End-to-End Quality of Service PDF Author: Abdelhamid Mellouk
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118623258
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 316

Book Description
A modern communication network can be described as a large, complex, distributed system composed by higher interoperating, smaller sub-systems. Today, the proliferation and convergence of different types of wired, wireless, and mobile networks are crucial for the success of the next generation networking. However, these networks can hardly meet the requirements of future integrated-service networks, and are expected to carry multimedia traffic with various Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Providing all relevant QoS/QoE issues in these heterogeneous networks is then an important challenge for telecommunication operators, manufacturers, and companies. The impressive emergence and the important demand of the rising generation of real-time Multi-service (such as Data, Voice VoD, Video-Conference, etc.) over communication heterogeneous networks, require scalability while considering a continuous QoS. This book presents and explains all the techniques in new generation networks which integrate efficient global control mechanisms in two directions: (1) maintain QoS requirements in order to maximize network resources utilization, and minimize operational costs on all the types of wired-wireless-mobile networks used to transport traffic, and (2) mix the QoS associated with home, access, and core networks in order to provide Quality of Service/Quality of Experience expected by users of new services.

Engineering Adaptive Software Systems

Engineering Adaptive Software Systems PDF Author: Yijun Yu
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 981132185X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 173

Book Description
This book discusses the problems and challenges in the interdisciplinary research field of self-adaptive software systems. Modern society is increasingly filled with software-intensive systems, which are required to operate in more and more dynamic and uncertain environments. These systems must monitor and control their environment while adapting to meet the requirements at runtime. This book provides promising approaches and research methods in software engineering, system engineering, and related fields to address the challenges in engineering the next-generation adaptive software systems. The contents of the book range from design and engineering principles (Chap. 1) to control–theoretic solutions (Chap. 2) and bidirectional transformations (Chap. 3), which can be seen as promising ways to implement the functional requirements of self-adaptive systems. Important quality requirements are also dealt with by these approaches: parallel adaptation for performance (Chap. 4), self-adaptive authorization infrastructure for security (Chap. 5), and self-adaptive risk assessment for self-protection (Chap. 6). Finally, Chap. 7 provides a concrete self-adaptive robotics operating system as a testbed for self-adaptive systems. The book grew out of a series of the Shonan Meetings on this ambitious topic held in 2012, 2013, and 2015. The authors were active participants in the meetings and have brought in interesting points of view. After several years of reflection, they now have been able to crystalize the ideas contained herein and collaboratively pave the way for solving some aspects of the research problems. As a result, the book stands as a milestone to initiate further progress in this promising interdisciplinary research field.

4g Mobile and Wireless Communications Technologies

4g Mobile and Wireless Communications Technologies PDF Author: Sofoklis Kyriazakos
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000792005
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 361

Book Description
Mobile and wireless communications are moving towards a new era that will be characterized by the seamless collaboration of heterogeneous systems, the need for high speed communications while on the move and for advanced services with quality guarantees. Recent market research studies show that most of the traffic in the future wireless networks will be produced by mobile multimedia services which are expected to proliferate by the year 2010. On the other hand mobile and wireless communications technology is becoming more and more important in developing countries where people demand fast deployment and low cost for broadband wireless internet services. The objective of this volume is to gather research and development on topics shaping the fourth generation (4G) in mobile and wireless communications and reveal the key trends and enabling technologies for 4G. We envisage 4G wireless communication systems as IP based solution providing integrated services (voice, data, multimedia) regardless of time and end-users? location. 4G technologies will manifest the benefits of the wireless and wired technologies convergence, through enabling a wide range of innovative (both indoor and outdoor) applications. 4G applications will feature premium quality, high security and an affordable cost. The vision, though fantastic, is associated with a host of technical and technological challenges.A great deal of the latter are discussed in the articles of this volume, which aims at providing insights on the research issues and solutions that are directly associated with leading edge 4G technologies and services.Taking into account recent developments in the world of wireless communications we have given emphasis to cover all these technologies and aspects that are considered as cornerstones for achieving the goals set for 4G and that will further boost research and development of next-generation mobile communications.
