Book Description
The present thinking on high-energy e/sup /plus//e/sup /minus// linear colliders is reviewed, stressing those points that have consequences for detector design and physics analyses. Detector requirements are discussed. Experimental aspects of the physics that can be done at these colliders are discussed: first the general physics environment, then a standard process, W/sup /plus// W/sup /minus// detection, and finally four examples of the discovery potential of these colliders -- heavy quarks, heavy leptons, standard Higgs bosons, and charged Higgs bosons. The conclusions of this study will be stated. 23 refs., 40 figs.

Physics And Experiments With Linear Colliders: Lcws95 - Proceedings Of The Workshop (In 2 Volumes)
Author: Yoshiaki Fujii
Publisher: World Scientific

Languages : en
Pages : 836
Book Description
Collider experiments have become essential to studying elementary particles. In particular, lepton collisions such as e⁺e⁻ are ideal from both experimental and theoretical points of view, and are a unique means of probing the new energy region, sub-TeV to TeV. It is a common understanding that a next-generation e⁺e⁻ collider will have to be a linear machine that evades beam-energy losses due to synchrotron radiation. In this book, physics feasibilities at linear colliders are discussed in detail, taking into account the recent progress in high-energy physics.

Book Description
This workshop brought together for the first time accelerator experts as well as experimental and theoretical high energy physicists from all over the world to consider the physics potential of high energy linear electron-positron colliders. A wide variety of physics cases were presented ranging from precision tests of the top quark and electroweak gauge bosons to searches of the intermediate mass Higgs bosons and supersymmetric particles.

Linear Collider Physics in the New Millennium
Author: Keisuke Fujii
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812389083
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 520
Book Description
The high energy electron-positron linear collider is expected to provide crucial clues to many of the fundamental questions of our time: What is the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking? Does a Standard Model Higgs boson exist, or does nature take the route of supersymmetry, technicolor or extra dimensions, or none of the foregoing? This invaluable book is a collection of articles written by experts on many of the most important topics which the linear collider will focus on. It is aimed primarily at graduate students but will undoubtedly be useful also to any active researcher on the physics of the next generation linear collider.

Book Description
The need to understand physics of electroweak symmetry breaking is reviewed. An electron positron linear collider will play crucial roles in that respect. It is discussed how the LHC and a linear collider need each other to understand symmetry breaking mechanism unambiguously. Two popular scenarios, supersymmetry and technicolor- like models, are used to demonstrate this point.

PROSPECTS FOR COLLIDERS AND COLLIDER PHYSICS TO THE 1 PEV ENERGY SCALE.

ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 36
Book Description
A review is given of the prospects for future colliders and collider physics at the energy frontier. A proof-of-plausibility scenario is presented for maximizing the authors progress in elementary particle physics by extending the energy reach of hadron and lepton colliders as quickly and economically as might be technically and financially feasible. The scenario comprises 5 colliders beyond the LHC--one each of ee− and hadron colliders and three?+?− colliders--and is able to hold to the historical rate of progress in the log-energy reach of hadron and lepton colliders, reaching the 1 PeV constituent mass scale by the early 2040's. The technical and fiscal requirements for the feasibility of the scenario are assessed and relevant long-term R and D projects are identified. Considerations of both cost and logistics seem to strongly favor housing most or all of the colliders in the scenario in a new world high energy physics laboratory.
