Un nouvel environnement concurrentiel existe, régis par le rythme explosif de l'innovation technologique des cent vingt dernières années et par une mondialisation, une information, et une interdépendance systémique dans le monde des affaires. Organisés autour des éléments représentes par la stratégie, l'organisation et les opérations, ils sont centrés sur les processus d'auto-organisation et d'auto-apprentissage, sur les relations entre activités, sur les flux d'information, et sur la coévolution de l'entreprise et de son environnement. Ils sont conçus pour servir d'orientions aux dirigeants des entreprises industrielles mondiales. Deux cas illustrent l'application de ces principes d'actions, un aux Etats Unis et l'autre en Europe orientale.
