Book Description
Excerpt from Proposed Plymouth Rock National Memorial In testimony before Congress, letters, and a referendum by the voters of Plymouth, the public overwhelmingly favored administration of the site by the Park Service. Though the voters of Plymouth preferred Plan 1 by a narrow margin, the greater part of the public response favored a park along the lines set out in Plan 3, the largest of the options. That plan has several obvious advantages: it offers the greatest chance for improving the general appearance of the waterfront, providing room for the constantly growing numbers of visitors, controlling automobiles in the heart of the historic sections, improv ing pedestrian paths, and interpreting the story of the Pilgrims and their colony. Book Description
Excerpt from On Plymouth Rock There are some things which the young people of this country should know by heart. Foremost among them is the simple, yet noble, story of the Pilgrim Fathers. How much this story transcends all others was lately emphasized by the high honors paid to the ancient manuscript history of Plymouth Colony, written by Governor Bradford, upon its return to its rightful owners, in this country. Nobody can read it without being deeply moved. It takes us back, along the deep-flowing river of time, to the very fountain-head of our national life. It is a story to be proud of. Not to the book alone, but to the grand heroism it tells us of, the sterling character it reveals, were these high honors paid. To the faint-hearted there is a strengthening power in its pages. To the strong it is a splendid. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Plymouth's Rock: The Rock Whence We Were Hewn We have come to talk of the olden time. We have come to honor the dead and to bear away with us, if we may, some benefit from such filial homage for ourselves and for our children. How unwonted our emotions strangers looking upon each other for the first time, yet one family! As we think of home and childhood, our memories fly over the broad continent to alight, some, among the wintry hills of New Hampshire, and others amid the savannahs of the sunny South some on the banks of the Kennebec, and others where the father of waters rolls the tribute of a thousand rivers to the sea.
