Light on Prophecy PDF Author: Jennifer Campbell
Publisher: Authentic Media Inc
ISBN: 1780780338
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 215

Book Description
With a close reading of both Hildegard and Bonhoeffer, Jennifer Campbell encourages the contemporary church to read the signs of the times and to reach out to those in need in prophetic witness to both the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. With a view to recovering a balanced and rounded theology of prophecy for the church today, she discusses the workings of both the Word of God (viewed as Christ and the Scriptures) and the Holy Spirit in the works and lives of two powerful prophetic leaders.

Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching

Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching PDF Author: Evelyn Theresa Watson
Publisher: WestBowPress
ISBN: 1490809422
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 211

Book Description
The author, Evelyn Theresa Watson, began her search of the scriptures with Genesis One where a primitive people said what they believed to be true about themselves and a creator named God. She unveils the day-by-day metaphoric prophecy that qualifies the formative process of immortal life and mortal time said of God, which became the signs of the times. In this second volume of Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching, she distinguishes between two accounts of creation—the first, created of God, and the second, made by the LORD God. The author presents this scriptural message in chapter verse subdivisions with descriptive headings that denote a statutory code of ethics in a systematic or set discourse of preceptive prophecy. Through translated words the reader will gain spiritual insight into scriptural prophecy concerning what was said of the LORD God as God and the covenants he made with Noah, Abraham, and Moses. Are you aware that a primitive account of immortality and mortality begins with THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES CALLED GENESIS? Are you seeking spiritual insight into the metaphoric mystery of biblical prophecy? How does the primitive language of soul identify the generations in mortal/ immortal words of scriptural prophecy? This commentary provides a systematic way for you to search the books of Genesis and Exodus for answers to these questions.

Divine Word and Prophetic Word in Early Islam

Divine Word and Prophetic Word in Early Islam PDF Author: William A. Graham

Pages : 289

Book Description
The series Religion and Society (RS) contributes to the exploration of religions as social systems – both in Western and non-Western societies; in particular, it examines religions in their differentiation from, and intersection with, other cultural systems, such as art, economy, law and politics. Due attention is given to paradigmatic case or comparative studies that exhibit a clear theoretical orientation with the empirical and historical data of religion and such aspects of religion as ritual, the religious imagination, constructions of tradition, iconography, or media. In addition, the formation of religious communities, their construction of identity, and their relation to society and the wider public are key issues of this series.

Prophecy, Miracles, Angels, and Heavenly Light?

Prophecy, Miracles, Angels, and Heavenly Light? PDF Author: James Bruce

Book Description
For the first time we see, through the theological mind of Adomnan, the mission of Columba to bring the Kingdom of God to Pict and Scot. The question is, was Adomnan simply following fashion (miracles proved sanctity, and thereby authorized the cult and its politically minded promoters), or did he also have a more sophisticated understanding of the nature and function of these authority-providing marvels that he systematizes uniquely: prophecy, miracles of power, visions? This book surveys approaches to the marvelous, tracing the intriguing recent growth in scholarly open-mindedness, and shows Plummer's 1910 hypothesis of the origin of Irish saga to be inadequate. Adomnan identifies the phenomena firmly as signs of the inbreaking eschatological Kingdom of God. Directed by the Spirit of prophecy, in miracles of transforming power, with angels and glimpses of the glory of God's presence, the conditions of the new earth are made tantalizingly present in sixth-century Scotland. The Spirit bringing the Kingdom is the mission of the church. How this is present in his Life recasts the missionary identity of Columba from a new perspective and poses questions for the task of the church today.

The Gleam of Light

The Gleam of Light PDF Author: Naoko Saito
Publisher: Fordham Univ Press
ISBN: 0823283097
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 201

Book Description
In the name of efficiency, the practice of education has come to be dominated by neoliberal ideology and procedures of standardization and quantification. Such attempts to make all aspects of practice transparent and subject to systematic accounting lack sensitivity to the invisible and the silent, to something in the human condition that cannot readily be expressed in an either-or form. Seeking alternatives to such trends, Saito reads Dewey’s idea of progressive education through the lens of Emersonian moral perfectionism (to borrow a term coined by Stanley Cavell). She elucidates a spiritual and aesthetic dimension to Dewey’s notion of growth, one considerably richer than what Dewey alone presents in his typically scientific terminology.
