L'objectif de ce travail de thèse est, à partir de la caractérisation des particules à l'impact (vitesse et température), d'essayer de comprendre l'influence des paramètres de projection plasma sur la microstructure des dépôts de dioxyde de titane et l'influence de cette dernière sur leur résistivité électrique, pour des conditions de substrat fixés. La stratégie expérimentale a consisté à utiliser deux procédés de projection plasma (plasma d'arc et plasma inductif) ce qui a permis d'obtenir une gamme étendue de vitesses et températures des particules conduisant à des dépôts avec des microstructures spécifiques. Malgré la stoechiométrie de la poudre de départ, tous les dépôts obtenus sont sous-stoechiométriques, la perte d'oxygène étant favorisée par l'augmentation de la température des particules à l'impact. En isolant l'influence de la stoechiométrie, il a été montré que la résistivité électrique des dépôts est surtout due à la diminution du nombre de mauvais contacts interlamellaires.

Les propriétés physico-chimiques de la plupart des matériaux céramiques rendent difficile l'obtention de dépôts par projection plasma. Ce travail propose un procédé d'obtention de dépôts combinant projection plasma et réaction auto-entretenue (SHS) : nous nous proposons d'introduire dans les particules projetées une source de chaleur via réaction fortement exothermique (SHS) entre deux matériaux, le titane et le graphite dans notre cas. La première partie de ce travail a consisté à mettre au point des granulés plus ou moins cohésifs contenant du titane et du graphite en proportions stoechiométriques. Des dépôts ont ensuite été réalisés avec chaque type de granulés. La projection plasma de granulés peu cohésifs conduit à la formation d'un oxycarbure de titane de composition TiO0,81C0,04 alors que la projection plasma de granulés cohésifs conduit à des dépôts constitués de carbure de titane, de l'oxycarbure TiO0,81C0,04, d'oxycarbures de compositions très différentes et d'oxydes de titane. Enfin, des analyses thermodynamiques des systèmes ont été réalisées afin de proposer des mécanismes de formation de chacune des phases observées.
