We often talk about groups believing, knowing, and testifying. For instance, we ask whether the Bush Administration had good reasons for believing that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, or whether BP knew that its equipment was faulty before the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Epistemic claims of this sort often have enormously significant consequences, given the ways they bear on the moral and legal responsibilities of collective entities. Despite the importance of these epistemic claims, there has been surprisingly little philosophical work shedding light on these phenomena, their consequences, and the broader implications that follow for epistemology in general. Essays in Collective Epistemology aims to fill this gap in the literature by bringing together new papers in this area by some of the leading figures in social epistemology. The volume is divided into four parts and contains ten articles written on a range of topics in collective epistemology. These are the proceedings of the 8th European Conference on Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning with Uncertainty, ECSQARU 2005, held in Barcelona (Spain), July 6–8, 2005. The ECSQARU conferences are biennial and have become a major forum for advances in the theory and practice of r- soning under uncertainty. The ?rst ECSQARU conference was held in Marseille (1991), and after in Granada (1993), Fribourg (1995), Bonn (1997), London (1999), Toulouse (2001) and Aalborg (2003). The papers gathered in this volume were selected out of 130 submissions, after a strict review process by the members of the Program Committee, to be presented at ECSQARU 2005. The two invited papers are presented at the - ginning of the proceedings, while the regular papers follow in alphabetical order (by the authors' names). In response to the call for papers, the Program Committee (PC) received 61 submissions.Amongthesubmissionswerefour paperswith atleastonecoauthor that was also a PC member of SAGT 2010. For these PC-coauthored papers, anindependent subcommittee (EliasKoutsoupias,PaulG. Spirakis,andXiaotie Deng) made the judgment, and eventually two of these papers were proposedfor inclusion in the Scienti?c Program. For the remaining 57 (non-PC-coauthored) papers, the PC of SAGT 2010 conducted a thorough evaluation (at least 3, and on average 3.9 reviews per paper) and electronic discussion, and eventually selected 26 papers for inclusion in the Scienti?c Program. An additional tutorial, “Games Played in Physics”, was also provided in SAGT 2010, courtesy of the academic research network Algogames (A??o?a????o) of the University of Patras.

Many Pentecostal groups have forgotten their legacy of war resistance and doctrinal history opposing killing. To rectify this loss, we have catalogued Holiness and Pentecostal denominational statements on war and peace. Numerous Holiness groups and virtually all early Pentecostal groups had some form of pacifist statement against war. This antiwar collection gives us an almost uniform picture of the early Pentecostal movement as largely pacifist in orientation. The commonality of these statements across both Holiness and Pentecostal movements is evidence they are a continuous group and not two separate movements. While their early doctrines opposed killing, many named in this book are now widely considered to be stalwarts of the Religious Right, or at least staunch supporters of Christian participation in war. Our hope is that this book will frame the official position of early Pentecostals on war and peace, and encourage Pentecostals today to reflect on their antiwar heritage.
