This conference was convened to review a study plan whose purpose is to provide information for predicting and mitigating effects of potential oil and gas exploration and development in the marine, coastal, and onshore areas of Alaska (the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea, Chukchi Sea, and Beaufort Sea), and to provide information on the natural and man-made marine and coastal environments that will enable government agencies and private organizations leasing these lands to make sound management decisions in developing these resources. The Chukchi Sea is not mentioned in the draft study plan, but is mentioned in these proceedings.
