Not only solutions to the above problems are becoming more critical, but they are also needed fast. Timely and effective solutions are called for so that we can recover from the pandemic while at the same time carry our efforts to better our world. It is no longer sufficient to find solutions that can only delay the negative impacts from the above problems, but it is imperative to tip the balance and reverse the impacts to our advantage. Engineers and engineering have a vital role in inventing mechanisms, systems, and/or products that can address the solutions. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence have been at the forefront of such exploration and we can expect some hints for a better future, if we continue being adaptive, resilient, and collaborative. Given the above background, Faculty of Engineering - Universitas Surabaya, will host the fourth bi-annual international conference “The 4th International Conference on Informatics, Technology and Engineering 2023 (InCITE 2023)” in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, September 14th–15th, 2023. This event is a continuation of the past events successfully held in 2017, 2019, and 2021. We invite academia and business practitioners all around the globe to share ideas and best practices relevant to the above conference topic. We hope that this event can also serve as a platform of gathering for anyone interested in exploring potential solutions of our common problems today. Accepted and presented paper will be submitted for publication in reputable International Proceeding (Atlantis Press). See you in Yogyakarta!

This is an open access book. ASEAN countries are diverse, with GDP per capita ranging from about USD1,297 in Myanmar, a lower-middle income country, to USD64,041 in Singapore, a high-income advanced economy (World Economic Outlook Database, IMF, April 2019). ASEAN marked its 50th anniversary in 2017 with relatively successful and prosperous development in five decades, with establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 as one the key milestones as well as the achievements of Millennium Development Goals 2015. Building on the past successes via Millennium Development Goals 2015, especially in areas such as poverty eradication, better health outcomes and quality education, ASEAN countries are poised to make a more inclusive progress towards the newly adopted development agenda of Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG 2030), which cover a wider set of interlinked development objectives under its 17 goals. The economic dynamism of the ASEAN region on the back of its strong income growth, continuous structural transformation and infrastructure improvements is expected to support sustainable development in the region. From the IMF Report (September 2018), most ASEAN countries, with their continued income growth and strong policy efforts, are on track to eradicate absolute poverty by 2030, while some of these countries are already doing well in terms of gender equality. Similarly, improvement in universal primary education completion is one of the key progress areas made by the majority of ASEAN countries. Despite these achievements, challenges persist, hence, we need to ensure a more inclusive and environmentally sustainable development in the region. Income inequality remains relatively high in several countries, and the shift towards manufacturing has strained environmental sustainability in the region. Furthermore, the other remaining development challenges call for a more comprehensive and integrated approach via the intra-ASEAN initiatives.

Batam is the city of Politeknik Negeri Batam, which organized ICAESS. This conference’s aim is to showcase research applications conducted by researchers. The research gap between academics and industries had become a significant challenge which is expected to be addressed during the conference. Our theme is "Responding the Era of Metaverse for Future Applied Technology". We have keynote speakers that delivering talks for the digital marketplace: Dr Hj Mohammad Nabil Almunawar, metaverse for education: Prof. Yusep Rosmanyah, S.T., M.Sc, PhD, and industry 4.0: Ashwani Singh, PhD. We are indebted to them, we hope their research continues successfully. ICAESS has 4 tracks including Economics Track, Accountings Track, Managements Track, and Social Sciences Track. We received 112 papers addressing topics in line from the tracks, including Economic Development, Accounting Theory, Business Administration, Development Studies and other related fields. We accepted 50 articles, with an acceptance rate of 45%. Special thanks to the Organizing Committee members along with the numerous reviewers for their assistance with the reviews of the submitted manuscripts. Finally, we sincerely express gratitude to all the participants, and the authors for all their work, thus making this conference a success.
