Modern Aspects of Classical Automata Theory

Book Description
Regular languages have a wide area of applications. This makes it an important task to convert between different forms of regular language representations, and to compress the size of such representations. This book studies modern aspects of compressions and conversions of regular language representations. The first main part presents methods for lossy compression of classical finite automata. Lossy compression allows to reduce the size of a language representation below the limits of classical compression methods, by the cost of introducing tolerable errors to the language. The complexity of many problems related to compression with respect to different error profiles is classified. The other main part is devoted to the study of biautomata, which were recently introduced as a new descriptional model for regular languages. Although biautomata are in many ways similar to finite automata, this book carves out some notable differences. While classical methods for finite automata can successfully be applied to biautomata, one observes a drastic increase of the computational complexity when considering lossy compression for biautomata.

Description Logic, Theory Combination, and All That

Description Logic, Theory Combination, and All That PDF Author: Carsten Lutz
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030221024
Category : Mathematics

Pages : 673

Book Description
This Festschrift has been put together on the occasion of Franz Baader's 60th birthday to celebrate his fundamental and highly influential scientific contributions. The 30 papers in this volume cover several scientific areas that Franz Baader has been working on during the last three decades, including description logics, term rewriting, and the combination of decision procedures. We hope that readers will enjoy the articles gathered in Franz's honour and appreciate the breadth and depth of his favourite areas of computer science.

Reasoning Web: Logical Foundation of Knowledge Graph Construction and Query Answering

Reasoning Web: Logical Foundation of Knowledge Graph Construction and Query Answering PDF Author: Jeff Z. Pan
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319494937
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 271

Book Description
This volume contains some lecture notes of the 12th Reasoning Web Summer School (RW 2016), held in Aberdeen, UK, in September 2016. In 2016, the theme of the school was “Logical Foundation of Knowledge Graph Construction and Query Answering”. The notion of knowledge graph has become popular since Google started to use it to improve its search engine in 2012. Inspired by the success of Google, knowledge graphs are gaining momentum in the World Wide Web arena. Recent years have witnessed increasing industrial take-ups by other Internet giants, including Facebook's Open Graph and Microsoft's Satori. The aim of the lecture note is to provide a logical foundation for constructing and querying knowledge graphs. Our journey starts from the introduction of Knowledge Graph as well as its history, and the construction of knowledge graphs by considering both explicit and implicit author intentions. The book will then cover various topics, including how to revise and reuse ontologies (schema of knowledge graphs) in a safe way, how to combine navigational queries with basic pattern matching queries for knowledge graph, how to setup a environment to do experiments on knowledge graphs, how to deal with inconsistencies and fuzziness in ontologies and knowledge graphs, and how to combine machine learning and machine reasoning for knowledge graphs.

Advances in Computers

Advances in Computers PDF Author:
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128003243
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 342

Book Description
Since its first volume in 1960, Advances in Computers has presented detailed coverage of innovations in computer hardware, software, theory, design, and applications. It has also provided contributors with a medium in which they can explore their subjects in greater depth and breadth than journal articles usually allow. As a result, many articles have become standard references that continue to be of significant, lasting value in this rapidly expanding field. - In-depth surveys and tutorials on new computer technology - Well-known authors and researchers in the field - Extensive bibliographies with most chapters - Many of the volumes are devoted to single themes or subfields of computer science
