Arguments for an Aryan Origin of the South Indian Megaliths
South Indian Megaliths
Author: Shane Jackson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Antiquities
Languages : en
Pages : 9
Book Description
The megaliths of the Iron Age South India are the greatest resource to examine life at the time they were built. Few villages remain archeologically intact and further, there are few connections between these monuments and other cultures of the time. In this paper the author looks at some of these monuments in order to present the culture and shed some light on how they lived and died. This paper will briefly examine the monuments themselves, their construction, skeletons in order to determine general health of the builders, and the associated grave goods to determine status, general cultural patterns. Despite the abundance of these monuments in South India, little is known about these builders outside of their grave practices. Few sites are connected to habitation areas, and little remains of those that are present. This paper seeks simply to condense information from several other reports in order to present a general idea of the builders' culture and provide an introduction to the Megalithic Iron Age in India. Further research and investigation should be undertaken to further understanding of the time and place.
