Book Description
In January 2004, the Constitutional Affairs Committee (in their report published as HCP 210, session 2003-04; ISBN 0215014707) referred the treatment of a select committee inquiry witness to the Committee on Standards and Privileges for consideration as a prima facie breach of privilege. After the witness, Ms Weleminsky, had given evidence to a Select Committee inquiry into the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service, it was subsequently alleged that she had committed a breach of her duties as a Board member and was asked to resign. The Standards and Privileges Committee's report examines the key issues involved in this matter, considers the sequence of events and makes a number of conclusions regarding parliamentary privilege and the protections given to witnesses of select committee inquiries.
