Principles of Bioreactor Design

Principles of Bioreactor Design PDF Author: Binoy Ranjan Maiti
Publisher: MV Learning
ISBN: 9789387692824
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Explores some basic aspects of reactor design for both chemical and biochemical systems. Chapters introduce the kinetics of chemical reaction engineering, the mechanistic model of catalytic gas-solid reactions and the residence time distribution for non-ideal reactors. These concepts are extended to biochemical reactor design.

Bioreactors for Tissue Engineering

Bioreactors for Tissue Engineering PDF Author: Julian Chaudhuri
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402037414
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
For the first time in a single volume, the design, characterisation and operation of the bioreactor system in which the tissue is grown is detailed. Bioreactors for Tissue Engineering presents an overall picture of the current state of knowledge in the engineering of bioreactors for several tissue types (bone, cartilage, vascular), addresses the issue of mechanical conditioning of the tissue, and describes the use of techniques such as MRI for monitoring tissue growth. This unique volume is dedicated to the fundamentals and application of bioreactor technology to tissue engineering products. Not only will it appeal to graduate students and experienced researchers in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, but also to tissue engineers and culture technologists, academic and industrial chemical engineers, biochemical engineers and cell biologists who wish to understand the criteria used to design and develop novel systems for tissue growth in vitro.

Bioreaction Engineering Principles

Bioreaction Engineering Principles PDF Author: Jens Nielsen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1461507677
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 537

Book Description
This is the second edition of the text "Bioreaction Engineering Principles" by Jens Nielsen and John Villadsen, originally published in 1994 by Plenum Press (now part of Kluwer). Time runs fast in Biotechnology, and when Kluwer Plenum stopped reprinting the first edition and asked us to make a second, revised edition we happily accepted. A text on bioreactions written in the early 1990's will not reflect the enormous development of experimental as well as theoretical aspects of cellular reactions during the past decade. In the preface to the first edition we admitted to be newcomers in the field. One of us (JV) has had 10 more years of job training in biotechnology, and the younger author (IN) has now received international recognition for his work with the hottest topics of "modem" biotechnology. Furthermore we are happy to have induced Gunnar Liden, professor of chemical reaction engineering at our sister university in Lund, Sweden to join us as co-author of the second edition. His contribution, especially on the chemical engineering aspects of "real" bioreactors has been of the greatest value. Chapter 8 of the present edition is largely unchanged from the first edition. We wish to thank professor Martin Hjortso from LSU for his substantial help with this chapter.

Bioreactor Design Fundamentals

Bioreactor Design Fundamentals PDF Author: Norton G. McDuffie
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 1483221083
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 150

Book Description
Bioreactor Design Fundamentals presents the development in the bioreactor field. This book discusses the applications of biological kinetics and thermodynamics. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the design of biological reactors that involves determining operating conditions, sizing the reactor, controlling temperature and sterility, and controlling operating variables. This text then examines the significance of pH considerations in biological reactor and process design. Other chapters consider enzyme kinetics and the equations most commonly used as models for overall enzyme kinetics. This book discusses as well the mass transfer rates in bioreactors, which are significant because of their effects on some chemical reaction rates in transformations by enzymes or by living cells. The final chapter deals with the ideal state of the continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTRs). This book is a valuable resource for biochemical engineers and industrial microbiologists.

Principles of Membrane Bioreactors for Wastewater Treatment

Principles of Membrane Bioreactors for Wastewater Treatment PDF Author: Hee-Deung Park
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466590386
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 436

Book Description
Membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology is a wastewater treatment method combining biological pollutant treatment with physical membrane separation. It has gained increasing commercial significance over the last decade, with applications in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment becoming increasingly widespread. This book covers a wide variety of MBR topics, including filtration theory, membrane materials and geometry, fouling phenomena and properties, and strategies for minimizing fouling. Also covered are practical aspects such as operation, maintenance, design, and application.
