Book Description
Trieste Publishing has a massive catalogue of classic book titles. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Primary Lessons in Human Physiology

Primary Lessons in Human Physiology PDF Author: Oliver Peebles Jenkins
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781330396162
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
Excerpt from Primary Lessons in Human Physiology These lessons have been prepared as a guide to the study of the human body; and while, no doubt, the teacher who undertakes to teach the subject of this little book is fully competent to do so, yet the writer may be pardoned for giving expression to his views in regard to the true place of such a book. The writer would insist that the book be used only as a guide to such study and not the sole object to be studied. The human body itself should be the object studied. To supplement this, abundant materials from the bodies of lower animals should be used as a means to give true conceptions of the parts of the human body and its actions. If the teacher had sufficient time to give complete individual direction, a book would be of questionable use in this connection. If this or any other elementary text-book in physiology is used simply as a book to be learned and recited, the time spent on it is worse than wasted. The terms used in the description of the parts of the body and their actions can not have their proper meanings unless the real objects are seen. To attempt to cram children's minds with terms which to them stand either for nothing, or for vague conceptions wholly different from those for which the terms have been chosen, is doing the children a great injury. This procedure is not only harmful but unnecessary. Many of the parts of the body can be put under study and their operations carefully observed and analyzed. The lower animals can furnish the rest of the illustrations. A bone is a bone, the animal kingdom through. The same may be said for muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and all other parts that make up the body. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Primary Lessons in Human Physiology and Hygiene for Schools On the other hand, the pupils are led incidentally to observe some of the most apparent phenomena connected with the life processes - the action and uses of the bones, the muscles, the skin, the heart, the lungs, the brain. They are shown the importance of wholesome food, healthful exercise, pure air, and temperate habits of living. They are induced to learn, partly from direct instruction, partly by observation, why one course of action is conducive to health and happiness while another leads to discomfort, sickness, and perhaps an imperfect manhood or womanhood. The effects of alcohol and tobacco in weakening the bodily powers and diminishing one's chances for success and long life are explained in a simple, and yet forceful, man ner. In the preparation of each of the lessons, the author has constantly asked himself these questions How much of this subject ought young children to know? How much of it can they wisely comprehend? What direct use can they make of this information to the betterment of themselves, both now and later in life? He has occasionally permitted himself to repeat some important statements more than once, but in a different form, to the end that the facts may be the.
