Distributed Algorithms for Resource Allocation in Multi-hop Random Access Wireless Networks

Distributed Algorithms for Resource Allocation in Multi-hop Random Access Wireless Networks PDF Author: Nikhil Singh

Book Description
Fair resource allocation is an effective strategy to provide optimal congestion control and scheduling in ad hoc wireless networks. We present distributed flow-based access schemes for slotted-time protocols, that guarantee proportional fairness in ad hoc wireless networks in the framework of nonlinear optimization. A proportionally fair medium access control algorithm maximizes the product over all flows of an appropriate flow-based performance function.

Book Description
Fifthly, we analyze the thresholds-based rate adaptation algorithms in IEEE 802.11 WLANs from a reverse engineering perspective and propose a threshold optimization algorithm to enhance the performance of IEEE 802.11 WLANs. Finally, we investigate the stochastic traffic engineering problem in multi-hop cognitive radio networks and derive a distributed algorithm based on the stochastic primal-dual approach for convex scenarios as well as a general solution based on the learning automata techniques for non-convex scenarios.

Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
Tackling problems from the least complicated to the most, Resource Allocation in Uplink OFDMA Wireless Systems provides readers with a comprehensive look at resource allocation and scheduling techniques (for both single and multi-cell deployments) in uplink OFDMA wireless networks relying on convex optimization and game theory to thoroughly analyze performance. Inside, readers will find topics and discussions on: Formulating and solving the uplink ergodic sum-rate maximization problem Proposing suboptimal algorithms that achieve a close performance to the optimal case at a considerably reduced complexity and lead to fairness when the appropriate utility is used Investigating the performance and extensions of the proposed suboptimal algorithms in a distributed base station scenario Studying distributed resource allocation where users take part in the scheduling process, and considering scenarios with and without user collaboration Formulating the sum-rate maximization problem in a multi-cell scenario, and proposing efficient centralized and distributed algorithms for intercell interference mitigation Discussing the applicability of the proposed techniques to state-of-the-art wireless technologies, LTE and WiMAX, and proposing relevant extensions Along with schematics and figures featuring simulation results, Resource Allocation in Uplink OFDMA Wireless Systems is a valuable book for?wireless communications and cellular systems professionals and students.

Fundamentals of Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks

Fundamentals of Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks PDF Author: Slawomir Stanczak

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to provide tools for a better understanding of the fundamental tradeo?s and interdependencies in wireless networks, with the goal of designing resource allocation strategies that exploit these int- dependencies to achieve signi?cant performance gains. Two facts prompted us to write it: First, future wireless applications will require a fundamental understanding of the design principles and control mechanisms in wireless networks. Second, the complexity of the network problems simply precludes the use of engineering common sense alone to identify good solutions, and so mathematics becomes the key avenue to cope with central technical problems in the design of wireless networks. In this book, two ?elds of mathematics play a central role: Perron-Frobenius theory for non-negative matrices and optimization theory. This book is a revised and expanded version of the research monograph “Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks” that was published as Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences (LNCS 4000) in 2006. Although the general structure has remained unchanged to a large extent, the book contains - merous additional results and more detailed discussion. For instance, there is a more extensive treatment of general nonnegative matrices and interf- ence functions that are described by an axiomatic model. Additional material on max-min fairness, proportional fairness, utility-based power control with QoS (quality of service) support and stochastic power control has been added.

Resource Allocation for Optimum Power Usage in Wireless Networks

Resource Allocation for Optimum Power Usage in Wireless Networks PDF Author: Ghada Hatem Mohammed Saleh

Book Description
Dramatic increase in wireless applications resulted in exponential data growth as well as significant energy demands. In this work, we focus on developing techniques and technologies that can supply high data rate with minimal power consumption requirements. First, we study the problem of simultaneous information and power transfer in a wireless multi-user, single hop network. Specifically, we develop an optimal resource allocation algorithm that maximizes the long term average rate of the network while harvesting energy from both the received signal and the interference. We focus on receivers that split the received signal power into two streams; one is fed to an information decoding block and the other is fed to an energy harvester block. We use a weight perturbation Lyapunov approach to optimally schedule data admission and allocate the powers and the energy splitting factors. We show that the designed algorithm achieves O(1/K) of the optimal and requires O(K) data queue and battery size. Then we study the potential as well as different challenges facing the millimeter wave technology. We focus on the problem of detecting and tracking the receiver location. We also address the problem of high power consumption at the receiver. We start by doing measurements on the millimeter wave channel and investigate its correlation with regular radio frequency channel. We develop an algorithm for discovering the receiver location and the underlying situation of the channel with low overhead and power consumption. A resource allocation algorithm is developed to optimize the network data rate while maintaining a minimal power consumption at the receiver.
