Preliminary Investigation of Graphite Fluoride (CFx)n as a Solid Lubricant
Graphite Fluoride: A Proposed Solid Lubricant
Author: Karl R. Mecklenburg
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 49
Book Description
Graphite fluoride, a proposed solid lubricant material, was evaluated with a sphere-on-plane tester to determine if previously generated data could be reproduced. Preliminary experiments with (CFx)n (graphite fluoride), substituted int existing film formulations in place of MoS2, revealed extremely short wear-lives when other test geometries were used. However, with the sphere-on-plane configuration, the data previously reported were reproduced. Wear-lives and friction coefficients for burnished MoS2 and (CFx)n are presented, along with friction coefficients for the bare metal combinations used. Also included are compressive stress values in the test zone based upon the starting and finishing contact areas. (Author).

Handbook of Carbon, Graphite, Diamonds and Fullerenes
Author: Hugh O. Pierson
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 0815517394
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 420
Book Description
This book is a review of the science and technology of the element carbon and its allotropes: graphite, diamond and the fullerenes. This field has expanded greatly in the last three decades stimulated by many major discoveries such as carbon fibers, low-pressure diamond, and the fullerenes. The need for such a book has been felt for some time. These carbon materials are very different in structure and properties. Some are very old (charcoal), others brand new (the fullerenes). They have different applications and markets and are produced by different segments of the industry.Few studies are available that attempt to review the entire field of carbon as a whole discipline. Moreover these studies were written several decades ago and a generally outdated since the development of the technology is moving very rapidly and scope of applications is constantly expanding and reaching into new fields such as aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, optics, and electronics. In this book the author provides a valuable, up-to-date account of both the newer and traditional forms of carbon, both naturally occurring and man-made. This volume will be a valuable resource for both specialists in, and occasional users of carbon materials.

Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium
Author: A.K. Suri
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351448978
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
The growth and development witnessed today in modern science, engineering, and technology owes a heavy debt to the rare, refractory, and reactive metals group, of which niobium is a member. Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium presents a vivid account of the metal through its comprehensive discussions of properties and applications, resources and resource processing, chemical processing and compound preparation, metal extraction, and refining and consolidation. Typical flow sheets adopted in some leading niobium-producing countries for the beneficiation of various niobium sources are presented, and various chemical processes for producing pure forms of niobium intermediates such as chloride, fluoride, and oxide are discussed. The book also explains how to liberate the metal from its intermediates and describes the physico-chemical principles involved. It is an excellent reference for chemical metallurgists, hydrometallurgists, extraction and process metallurgists, and minerals processors. It is also valuable to a wide variety of scientists, engineers, technologists, and students interested in the topic.
