Book Description
Excerpt from Practical Pedagogy in the Sunday School It may be applied, for example, to the work of the kindergarten, or to the post-graduate course of a university. It should have a very important place in the Sunday-school; perhaps at the present time more than ever before, because so much depends on the proper teaching of Christian truth. While this is true, some fears that have been expressed by consecrated Sunday-school teachers must be labelled as groundless. "The introduction of pedagogy into our Sunday-school work will interfere with the position that the Bible now holds." This is the thought of many. It is, however, entirely erroneous, for the true teaching of the Bible must be in harmony with the principles of pedagogy, as both have the same author. Further than this, the Bible itself abounds with illustrations of pedagogical principles. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Sunday-School Success

Sunday-School Success PDF Author: Amos R. Wells
Publisher: DigiCat
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
In these pages the author has described the methods of the most successful teachers and Sunday-schools he has known. While a large part of the book is the direct fruit of his own experience in Sabbath and secular schools, it sets forth, as every teacher will understand, what the author has learned from his failures rather than from his successes. Though the volume has something to say on all the great Sunday-school problems, it does not pretend to be a complete manual; indeed, who could prepare one on such a stupendous theme? If it justifies its appearance among the admirable treatises already published for Sunday-school workers, it will be because it presents with frankness the methods found helpful by an average teacher, who never had charge of a large school or a large class, but in district school, small college, and small Sunday-school has struggled with the practical problems of a teacher, and in some of them at least, like Sentimental Tommy, has "found a way."

Pedagogy and Practice

Pedagogy and Practice PDF Author: Patricia Murphy
Publisher: SAGE
ISBN: 1446202631
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 233

Book Description
This book foregrounds pedagogy in a way that challenges readers to reflect on themselves as teachers and learners, and to be reflexive about their own practices and contexts. Learning involves a transformation of identity which occurs through negotiation and repositioning, through new ways of relating, and through different ways of participating in practices. This book examines the meaning and implications for pedagogy in educational and workplace settings, and the role of the teacher in this sociocultural view of learning. By illustrating the mediated nature of agency and identity, the chapters (re)conceptualise the teacher and the learner and show different ways of supporting learning and being a teacher. The settings represented range from nursery to university and from out-of-school to insitutionally-based and work place situations. Curricular aspects represented include popular culture, critical literacy, multimodality, the arts, and new technologies. Teachers and student teachers, as learners, are also represented in the accounts assembled. The book takes a sociocultural view of learning and considers the pedagogical implications of this view. It explores different meanings of pedagogy and considers notions of cultural bridging and the processess of transforming identities. The contributions challenge ways of thinking about practice, both teaching and assessment, and argue for practices that bridge between learners′ worlds, their communities and educational institutions. Drawing on the international literature, this book will be essential reading for students of curriculum learning and assessment in all sectors from pre-primary to further and higher education. It is suitable as a core text for masters and taught doctorate programmes. It will also be of interest to a wide range of professionals involved with curriculum, learning and the practice of teaching and assessment. This book is relevant to those in work-based and professional education and training, and in informal educational settings, as well as traditional educational institutions at all levels. A unique collection in a field that is underrepresented, it will also be of interest to an academic audience.
