Single-Photon Generation and Detection

Single-Photon Generation and Detection PDF Author:
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0123876966
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 593

Book Description
Single-photon generation and detection is at the forefront of modern optical physics research. This book is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the current status of single-photon techniques and research methods in the spectral region from the visible to the infrared. The use of single photons, produced on demand with well-defined quantum properties, offers an unprecedented set of capabilities that are central to the new area of quantum information and are of revolutionary importance in areas that range from the traditional, such as high sensitivity detection for astronomy, remote sensing, and medical diagnostics, to the exotic, such as secretive surveillance and very long communication links for data transmission on interplanetary missions. The goal of this volume is to provide researchers with a comprehensive overview of the technology and techniques that are available to enable them to better design an experimental plan for its intended purpose. The book will be broken into chapters focused specifically on the development and capabilities of the available detectors and sources to allow a comparative understanding to be developed by the reader along with and idea of how the field is progressing and what can be expected in the near future. Along with this technology, we will include chapters devoted to the applications of this technology, which is in fact much of the driver for its development. This is set to become the go-to reference for this field. - Covers all the basic aspects needed to perform single-photon experiments and serves as the first reference to any newcomer who would like to produce an experimental design that incorporates the latest techniques - Provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of single-photon techniques and research methods in the spectral region from the visible to the infrared, thus giving broad background that should enable newcomers to the field to make rapid progress in gaining proficiency - Written by leading experts in the field, among which, the leading Editor is recognized as having laid down the roadmap, thus providing the reader with an authenticated and reliable source

Detection and Signal Processing

Detection and Signal Processing PDF Author: Wilhelmus Jacobus Witteman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540295992
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 181

Book Description
This comprehensive monograph deals with detectors, signal processors and related noise phenomena. Detailed quantitative analyses are developed in a consistent format for thermal detectors, vacuum detectors, semiconductor detectors and avalanche detectors, as well as their accompanying noise currents. For signal processing applocations, the monograph treats in detail the operational amplifier, signal averagers, waveform analyzers, correlation techniques and heterodyne detection. Several original extensions are reported, especially for correlation devices and heterodyne detection with noise rejection. In addition, results of analyses are illustrated with examples of operating systems and of applications in space communication and laser radar.

Required Signal-to-noise Ratios, RF Signal Power, and Bandwith for Multichannel Radio Communications Systems

Required Signal-to-noise Ratios, RF Signal Power, and Bandwith for Multichannel Radio Communications Systems PDF Author: United States. National Bureau of Standards
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Radio
Languages : en
Pages : 196

Book Description
A method is outlined for determining the relationships between the grade of performance, or message error rate, of a radio communication system and the system parameters. Results are presented in the form of design equations and system-design curves. The system parameters and variables considered are the following definable and measurable factors: signal-to-noise ratios, carrier signal power level, message load, receiver noise figure, etc. These factors are used with the design curve scales as normalizing factors in order to yield quantitative results.

Introduction to Nonparametric Detection with Applications

Introduction to Nonparametric Detection with Applications PDF Author: Jerry D. Gibson
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0080956289
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
Even with the advances in signal processing and digital communications, robustness to uncertain channel statistics continues to be a fundamental issue in the design and performance analysis of today's communications, radar, and sonar systems. The variability of digital communications systems consistently challenges the communications system designer, while new applications have channels that almost defy accurate modeling. As a result, parametric detectors, which are excellent when model assumptions are satisfied, do not maintain the satisfactory performance necessary for detection. This core IEEE Press reissue is the only book devoted solely to nonparametric detection - the key to maintaining good performance over a wide range of conditions. Throughout, the authors employ the classical Neyman-Pearson approach, which is widely applicable to detection problems in communications, radar, sonar, acoustics, and geophysics. Topics covered include: nonparametric detection theory, basic detection theory, one-input and two-input detectors and performance, tied observations, dependent sample performance, and engineering applications.
