Positive Solutions of Differential, Difference and Integral Equations

Positive Solutions of Differential, Difference and Integral Equations PDF Author: R.P. Agarwal
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401591717
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 425

Book Description
In analysing nonlinear phenomena many mathematical models give rise to problems for which only nonnegative solutions make sense. In the last few years this discipline has grown dramatically. This state-of-the-art volume offers the authors' recent work, reflecting some of the major advances in the field as well as the diversity of the subject. Audience: This volume will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in mathematical analysis and its applications, whose work involves ordinary differential equations, finite differences and integral equations.

Book Description
This monograph is areport on the present state of a fairly coherent collection of problems about which a sizeable literature has grown up in recent years. In this literature, some of the problems have, as it happens, been analyzed in great detail, whereas other very similar ones have been treated much more superficially. I have not attempted to improve on the literature by making equally detailed presentations of every topic. I have also not aimed at encyclopedic completeness. I have, however, pointed out some possible generalizations by stating a number of questions; some of these could doubtless be disposed of in a few minutes; some are probably quite difficult. This monograph was written at the suggestion of B. SZ.-NAGY. I take this opportunity of pointing out that his paper [1] inspired the greater part of the material that is presented here; in particular, it contains the happy idea of focusing Y attention on the multipliers nY-i, x- . R. ASKEY, P. HEYWOOD, M. and S. IZUMI, and S. WAINGER have kindly communicated some of their recent results to me before publication. I am indebted for help on various points to L. S. BOSANQUET, S. M. EDMONDS, G. GOES, S. IZUMI, A. ZYGMUND, and especially to R. ASKEY. My work was supported by the National Science Foundation under grants GP-314, GP-2491, GP-3940 and GP-5558. Real and Functional Analysis

Real and Functional Analysis PDF Author: Serge Lang
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461208971
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 591

Book Description
This book is meant as a text for a first-year graduate course in analysis. In a sense, it covers the same topics as elementary calculus but treats them in a manner suitable for people who will be using it in further mathematical investigations. The organization avoids long chains of logical interdependence, so that chapters are mostly independent. This allows a course to omit material from some chapters without compromising the exposition of material from later chapters.

Real Analysis: Foundations

Real Analysis: Foundations PDF Author: Sergei Ovchinnikov
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030647013
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
This textbook explores the foundations of real analysis using the framework of general ordered fields, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of the area. Focusing on the logical structure of real analysis, the definitions and interrelations between core concepts are illustrated with the use of numerous examples and counterexamples. Readers will learn of the equivalence between various theorems and the completeness property of the underlying ordered field. These equivalences emphasize the fundamental role of real numbers in analysis. Comprising six chapters, the book opens with a rigorous presentation of the theories of rational and real numbers in the framework of ordered fields. This is followed by an accessible exploration of standard topics of elementary real analysis, including continuous functions, differentiation, integration, and infinite series. Readers will find this text conveniently self-contained, with three appendices included after the main text, covering an overview of natural numbers and integers, Dedekind's construction of real numbers, historical notes, and selected topics in algebra. Real Analysis: Foundations is ideal for students at the upper-undergraduate or beginning graduate level who are interested in the logical underpinnings of real analysis. With over 130 exercises, it is suitable for a one-semester course on elementary real analysis, as well as independent study.
