I am the daughter of a Sharecropper, Lumber Jack and Pipe fitter, and granddaughter of a slave, Wilson Wallace. I attended Little Zion Country School at the age of six. I started my first year of school in the second grade. My family later migrated to Omaha Nebraska. After I turned sixteen, I returned to my home state where I married Abraham Lincoln Salter Sr. We separated when I was 21 years old and divorced at 29. I attended O. I. C in preparation for my GED which I obtained at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluff, Iowa. This allowed me to attend nursing school at Fort Omaha. After my move to Pomona California, I was able to graduate and acquire my LVN license in 1979. I also attended business College at Mt. SAC in Walnut California. At the age of 63, I studied to become a Nursing Assistant at NIT(Wyotech) in Long Beach. Out of frustration and disappointment of looking for a job that seemed to elude me, I started writing poetry again. I'm a mother of four, grandmother of five and great grandmother of ten.
