Flaminius, Pyrrhus, Caius Marius, Lysander, Sylla, Cimon, Lucullus, Nicias, Marcus Crassus When he ceafed to be under the authority of his ma; i'ters and governors, and began to bear arms in the incur {ions which his citizens ufed to make upon the Lacedar: monians for'pillage, he would always march out the firfi, and return the laft. In times of leifure he exercifed his body, and endeavoured to render it {trong and rive, by hunting, or labouring in his ground; for he had a good efiate about twenty furlongs rom the town, and thither he went every day after dinner and (upper; and at night threw himfelf upon the firft mattrefs in his way, and there ept as one of the labours. At break of day he would rife with the reft, and work either in the vine: yard or at the plough from thence he returned again to the town, and employed his time in publick bufinefs' with his friends or the magifirates. What he got in the wars, he laid out on horfes, arms, or in redeeming cap? Rives'; but he endeavoured to improve his own eftate, the juftef't way, by hufbandry and this he praeliced'not ightly, b way of diverfion, but as one who thought it his duty [g to manage his own fortune, as to be free from all temptation of wronging others.
