Advanced Fiber Access Networks

Advanced Fiber Access Networks PDF Author: Cedric F. Lam
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0323855008
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
Advanced Fiber Access Networks takes a holistic view of broadband access networks—from architecture to network technologies and network economies. The book reviews pain points and challenges that broadband service providers face (such as network construction, fiber cable efficiency, transmission challenges, network scalability, etc.) and how these challenges are tackled by new fiber access transmission technologies, protocols and architecture innovations. Chapters cover fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications as well as fiber backhauls in other access networks such as 5G wireless and hybrid-fiber-coax (HFC) networks. In addition, it covers the network economy, challenges in fiber network construction and deployment, and more. Finally, the book examines scaling issues and bottlenecks in an end-to-end broadband network, from Internet backbones to inside customer homes, something rarely covered in books. - Provides the latest information on end-to-end broadband access networks, from architecture to network technologies and network economies

Organic Spintronics

Organic Spintronics PDF Author: Zeev Valy Vardeny
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1439806578
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 354

Book Description
Major development efforts in organic materials research has grown for an array of applications. Organic spintronics, in particular, has flourished in the area of organic magneto-transport. Reflecting the main avenues of advancement in this arena, this volume explores spin injection and manipulation in organic spin valves, the magnetic field effect in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), the spin transport effect in relation to spin manipulation, organic magnets as spin injection electrodes in organic spintronics devices, the coherent control of spins in organic devices using the technique of electronically detected magnetic resonance, and the possibility of using organic spin valves as sensors.

Exterior Differential Systems

Exterior Differential Systems PDF Author: Robert L. Bryant
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461397146
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 483

Book Description
This book gives a treatment of exterior differential systems. It will in clude both the general theory and various applications. An exterior differential system is a system of equations on a manifold defined by equating to zero a number of exterior differential forms. When all the forms are linear, it is called a pfaffian system. Our object is to study its integral manifolds, i. e. , submanifolds satisfying all the equations of the system. A fundamental fact is that every equation implies the one obtained by exterior differentiation, so that the complete set of equations associated to an exterior differential system constitutes a differential ideal in the algebra of all smooth forms. Thus the theory is coordinate-free and computations typically have an algebraic character; however, even when coordinates are used in intermediate steps, the use of exterior algebra helps to efficiently guide the computations, and as a consequence the treatment adapts well to geometrical and physical problems. A system of partial differential equations, with any number of inde pendent and dependent variables and involving partial derivatives of any order, can be written as an exterior differential system. In this case we are interested in integral manifolds on which certain coordinates remain independent. The corresponding notion in exterior differential systems is the independence condition: certain pfaffian forms remain linearly indepen dent. Partial differential equations and exterior differential systems with an independence condition are essentially the same object.

$p$-Adic Methods in Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry

$p$-Adic Methods in Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry PDF Author: Alan Adolphson
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821851454
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
Two meetings of the AMS in the autumn of 1989 - one at the Stevens Institute of Technology and the other at Ball State University - included Special Sessions on the role of p-adic methods in number theory and algebraic geometry. This volume grew out of these Special Sessions. Drawn from a wide area of mathematics, the articles presented here provide an excellent sampling of the broad range of trends and applications in p-adic methods.

GaN and Related Materials

GaN and Related Materials PDF Author: Stephen J. Pearton
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000448428
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 556

Book Description
Presents views on current developments in heat and mass transfer research related to the modern development of heat exchangers. Devotes special attention to the different modes of heat and mass transfer mechanisms in relation to the new development of heat exchangers design. Dedicates particular attention to the future needs and demands for further development in heat and mass transfer. GaN and related materials are attracting tremendous interest for their applications to high-density optical data storage, blue/green diode lasers and LEDs, high-temperature electronics for high-power microwave applications, electronics for aerospace and automobiles, and stable passivation films for semiconductors. In addition, there is great scientific interest in the nitrides, because they appear to form the first semiconductor system in which extended defects do not severely affect the optical properties of devices. This series provides a forum for the latest research in this rapidly-changing field, offering readers a basic understanding of new developments in recent research. Series volumes feature a balance between original theoretical and experimental research in basic physics, device physics, novel materials and quantum structures, processing, and systems.
