Book Description
KES International (KES) is a worldwide organisation that provides a professional community and association for researchers, originally in the discipline of Kno- edge Based and Intelligent Engineering Systems, but now extending into other related areas. Through this, KES provides its members with opportunities for publication and beneficial interaction. The focus of KES is research and technology transfer in the area of Intelligent Systems, i.e. computer-based software systems that operate in a manner analogous to the human brain, in order to perform advanced tasks. Recently KES has started to extend its area of interest to encompass the contribution that intelligent systems can make to sustainability and renewable energy, and also the knowledge transfer, innovation and enterprise agenda. Involving several thousand researchers, managers and engineers drawn from universities and companies world-wide, KES is in an excellent position to faci- tate international research co-operation and generate synergy in the area of arti- cial intelligence applied to real-world ‘Smart’ systems and the underlying related theory. The KES annual conference covers a broad spectrum of intelligent systems t- ics and attracts several hundred delegates from a range of countries round the world. KES also organises symposia on specific technical topics, for example, Agent and Multi Agent Systems, Intelligent Decision Technologies, Intelligent Interactive Multimedia Systems and Services, Sustainability in Energy and Bui- ings and Innovations through Knowledge Transfer. KES is responsible for two peer-reviewed journals, the International Journal of Knowledge based and Intel- gent Engineering Systems, and Intelligent Decision Technologies: an International Journal.

Human-Centred Software Engineering

Human-Centred Software Engineering PDF Author: Regina Bernhaupt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642164870
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 231

Book Description
The conference series HCSE (Human-Centred Software Engineering) was established four years ago in Salamanca. HCSE 2010 is the third working conference of IFIP Working Group 13.2, Methodologies for User-Centered Systems Design. The goal of HCSE is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in strengthening the scientific foundations of user interface design, examining the re- tionship between software engineering and human-computer interaction and focusing on how to strengthen user-centered design as an essential part of software engineering processes. As a working conference, substantial time was devoted to the open and lively discussion of papers. The interest in the conference was positive in terms of submissions and partici- tion. We received 42 contributions that resulted in 10 long papers, 5 short papers and 3 poster papers. The selection was carried out carefully by the International Program Committee. The result is a set of interesting and stimulating papers that address such important issues as contextual design, user-aware systems, ubiquitous environments and usability evaluation. The final program of the conference included a keynote by Liam Bannon with the title “Approaches to Software Engineering: A Human-Centred Perspective.” This talk raised a lot of interesting questions for IFIP WG 13.2 and might have had some - pact for participants to become a member of the working group. We hope that participants considered HCSE 2010 as successful as its two p- desessors in terms of interesting discussions and new ideas for scientific co-operation.

Internet of Things

Internet of Things PDF Author: Nasreddine Bouhaï
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1786301512
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
The development of connected, communicating objects is showing no signs of slowing down. With an increasing number of objects available on the market, the evolution of the Internet of Things is leading to more and more fields being explored via information and communication sciences. This book analyzes the ecosystem of the Internet of Things by retracing the historical and technological context of the Internet's evolution from traditional to dynamic, social and semantic, and then towards this ecosystem of connected objects. The evolution of concepts surrounding the Internet of Things is explored via real-life examples of connected objects; both those used for specific functions and for more general everyday objects. Numerous issues associated with these new technological and digital transformations in a "hyperconnected" world, as well as the impact of the massive influx of connected objects, are discussed. The crucial questions of potential intrusion into the private lives of users as well that of security are then studied.
