Book Description
The Planar Inlet Design and Analysis Process (PINDAP) is a collection of software tools that allow the efficient aerodynamic design and analysis of planar (two-dimensional and axisymmetric) inlets. The aerodynamic analysis is performed using the Wind-US computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program. A major element in PINDAP is a Fortran 90 code named PINDAP that can establish the parametric design of the inlet and efficiently model the geometry and generate the grid for CFD analysis with design changes to those parameters. The use of PINDAP is demonstrated for subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic inlets. Slater, John W. and Gruber, Christopher R. Glenn Research Center NASA/TM-2005-213866, E-15236, AIAA Paper 2005-4203

Experimental Investigation of a Large-scale, Two-dimensional, Mixed-compression Inlet System
Author: Norman D. Wong
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Jet engines
Languages : en
Pages : 68
Book Description
A large-scale, variable-geometry inlet model with a design Mach number of 3.0 was tested at Mach numbers from 1.55 to 3.2. Variable features of the inlet for off-design operation are an adjustable-height ramp system and a translating cowl. This report presents experimental results for a diffuser and boundary-layer bleed configuration which was optimized at the design Mach number. Overall performance was high with throat-mounted vortex generators, which were effective in reducing flow distortion in the subsonic diffuser at the higher Mach numbers.

A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity
Author: E.H. Dowell
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401104999
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 724
Book Description
Aeroelasticity is the study of flexible structures situated in a flowing fluid. Its modern origins are in the field of aerospace engineering, but it has now expanded to include phenomena arising in other fields such as bioengineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering. The present volume is a teaching text for a first, and possibly second, course in aeroelasticity. It will also be useful as a reference source on the fundamentals of the subject for practitioners. In this third edition, several chapters have been revised and three new chapters added. The latter include a brief introduction to `Experimental Aeroelasticity', an overview of a frontier of research `Nonlinear Aeroelasticity', and the first connected, authoritative account of `Aeroelastic Control' in book form. The authors are drawn from a range of fields including aerospace engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, rotorcraft and turbomachinery. Each author is a leading expert in the subject of his chapter and has many years of experience in consulting, research and teaching.
