Profitant des abaissements de la France, le Piemont venait de consommer ses attentats, et les honnetes gens consternes se taisaient. Je me mis a l' uvre, consultant mon indignation plus que mes forces; j'aurais voulu retrouver la foudre de Bossuet ou le burin de Tacite pour venger la justice, consoler l'innocence opprimee, et marquer au front le parjure sur son char triomphal.
