Physical Ceramics

Physical Ceramics PDF Author: Yet-Ming Chiang
Publisher: Wiley
ISBN: 9780471598732
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 544

Book Description
Designed to provide students with the core understanding necessary to pursue the subject of ceramics as it now exists and to be prepared for any surprises likely to emerge. Key concepts are developed in a sequence which builds on firm foundations, using the material learned so that its significance is continuously reinforced. The nature of defects which intrudes upon the perfect geometry of ideal crystal structures, migration of matter and charge, chemical and phase equilibria are among the subjects discussed.

Ceramic Microstructures

Ceramic Microstructures PDF Author: Antoni P. Tomsia
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9780306458170
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 876

Book Description
This volume, titled Proceedings of the International Materials Symposium on Ce ramic Microstructures: Control at the Atomic Level summarizes the progress that has been achieved during the past decade in understanding and controlling microstructures in ceram ics. A particular emphasis of the symposium, and therefore of this volume, is advances in the characterization, understanding, and control of micro structures at the atomic or near-atomic level. This symposium is the fourth in a series of meetings, held every ten years, devoted to ceramic microstructures. The inaugural meeting took place in 1966, and focussed on the analysis, significance, and production of microstructure; the symposium emphasized the need for, and importance of characterization in achieving a more complete understanding of the physical and chemical characteristics of ceramics. A consensus emerged at that meeting on the critical importance of characterization in achieving a more complete understanding of ceramic properties. That point of view became widely accepted in the ensuing decade. The second meeting took place in 1976 at a time of world-wide energy shortages and thus emphasized energy-related applications of ceramics, and more specifically, microstructure-property relationships of those materials. The third meeting, held in 1986, was devoted to the role that interfaces played both during processing, and in influencing the ultimate properties of single and polyphase ceramics, and ceramic-metal systems.

Porosity of Ceramics

Porosity of Ceramics PDF Author: Roy W. Rice
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780824701512
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 560

Book Description
Focuses on the effects of porosity and microcracking on the physical properties of ceramics, particularly nominally single phase ceramics. The book elucidates the fundamental interrelationships determining the development and use of materials for actual and potential engineering needs. It aims to help in the understanding of porosity effects on other materials, from ceramic composties, cements and plasters to rocks, metals and polymers.;College or university bookshops may order five or more copies at a special student price, available on request.

Fundamentals of Ceramics

Fundamentals of Ceramics PDF Author: Michel Barsoum
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780750309028
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 642

Book Description
Updated and improved, this revised edition of Michel Barsoum's classic text Fundamentals of Ceramics presents readers with an exceptionally clear and comprehensive introduction to ceramic science. Barsoum offers introductory coverage of ceramics, their structures, and properties, with a distinct emphasis on solid state physics and chemistry. Key equations are derived from first principles to ensure a thorough understanding of the concepts involved. The book divides naturally into two parts. Chapters 1 to 9 consider bonding in ceramics and their resultant physical structures, and the electrical, thermal, and other properties that are dependent on bonding type. The second part (Chapters 11 to 16) deals with those factors that are determined by microstructure, such as fracture and fatigue, and thermal, dielectric, magnetic, and optical properties. Linking the two sections is Chapter 10, which describes sintering, grain growth, and the development of microstructure. Fundamentals of Ceramics is ideally suited to senior undergraduate and graduate students of materials science and engineering and related subjects.
