Air Pollution Processes in Regional Scale

Air Pollution Processes in Regional Scale PDF Author: Dimitrios Melas
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402016264
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 422

Book Description
An understanding of long-range transport of air pollutants in the atmosphere requires a knowledge of the relevant atmospheric dynamic and chemical processes active at the regional scale as well as the temporal and spatial distribution of emissions. Numerical modeling is the most efficient way to determine the atmospheric transport, photochemistry and deposition pathways. The book therefore discusses the physical and chemical processes that determine regional air pollution and presents the relevant modeling techniques to describe the different atmospheric processes that are active at that scale.

Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics of Air Pollution

Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics of Air Pollution PDF Author: John H. Seinfeld
Publisher: Wiley-Interscience
ISBN:
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 770

Book Description
A fundamental treatment of all aspects of the physical and chemical behavior of air pollutants. Provides a clear analysis of the chemistry of atmospheric pollutants, an extensive treatment of the formation, thermodynamics and dynamics of atmospheric aerosols, and an elementary discussion of atmospheric diffusion with commonly used atmospheric diffusion formulas derived from first principles. Also contains comprehensive coverage of atmospheric removal processes, including wet and dry deposition; statistical distributions of atmospheric concentrations, and a discussion of acid rain. Numerous problems enable students to evaluate their understanding. All major chapters contain up-to-date bibliographies.

Advances in Air Pollution Modeling for Environmental Security

Advances in Air Pollution Modeling for Environmental Security PDF Author: István Faragó
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402033490
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 428

Book Description
The protection of our environment is one of the major problems in the society. More and more important physical and chemical mechanisms are to be added to the air pollution models. Moreover, new reliable and robust control strategies for keeping the pollution caused by harmful compounds under certain safe levels have to be developed and used in a routine way. Well based and correctly analyzed large mathematical models can successfully be used to solve this task. The use of such models leads to the treatment of huge computational tasks. The efficient solution of such problems requires combined research from specialists working in different fields. The aim of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (NATO ARW) entitled “Advances in Air Pollution Modeling for Environmental Security” was to invite specialists from all areas related to large-scale air pollution modeling and to exchange information and plans for future actions towards improving the reliability and the scope of application of the existing air pollution models and tools. This ARW was planned to be an interdisciplinary event, which provided a forum for discussions between physicists, meteorologists, chemists, computer scientists and specialists in numerical analysis about different ways for improving the performance and the quality of the results of different air pollution models.

Chemical Events in the Atmosphere and their Impact on the Environment

Chemical Events in the Atmosphere and their Impact on the Environment PDF Author: G.B. Marini-Bettòlo
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080874851
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 727

Book Description
This book covers the proceedings of a study week held to bring together the most varied experiences in the many disciplines which form the background of ecology. The purpose of the meeting was to examine the present state of knowledge and the need for research in order to gather the information necessary for action to protect the environment and biosphere. Many aspects of the anthropogenic effects on the atmosphere have been studied. However more research is needed to quantify the impact of the various chemicals on the changes occurring in the atmosphere. Acid rain formation mechanisms, although investigated, are not yet fully understood. It is thus necessary to program carefully our future, after further interdisciplinary research, in order to avoid irreversible damage to our environment. The guidelines of this action, as a result of the presentations and discussions, are reported in the conclusions. The main points stressed are: tropospheric chemistry, the problem of the conservation of the ozone layer, the growth of carbon dioxide and climate changes, atmospheric acidity, the effects of changes on water, soils and biota as well as the particular problems of the tropical world. The book will be ideal for postgraduates studying atmospheric chemistry and for environmental protection agencies.
