Book Description
Ideological science will never lead to genuine growth. The peer-reviewed process is completely broken. Are you for/against climate change? You can back it up with peer-reviewed articles. Against GMOs? There are peer-reviewed articles for that as well. Are you for/against abortion? What about gene-editing? AI? Global trade? Gun control? Unions? Education? Whatever issue you have, there's a peer-reviewed article that you can use to defend your beliefs. That's not objective science. That's ideological junk science. How do we fix the peer-reviewed process? What is animal consciousness? How does ESP work? Will technology enable the creation of a new human race? Are you a visionary scientist? Do you want people to accept GMOs, gene-editing, cloning, and synthetic biology? You'll find the answers to all of these questions in Part III.

Time And Science - Volume 3: Physical Sciences And Cosmology

Time And Science - Volume 3: Physical Sciences And Cosmology PDF Author: Remy Lestienne
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1800613865
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 367

Book Description
The present volume of Time and Science series is devoted to Physical Sciences and Cosmology. Today more than ever, the question 'is Time an ontological property, a necessary ingredient for the physical description of the world, or a purely epistemological element, relative to our situation in the world?' worry physicists and cosmologists alike. For many of them, Relativity (and particularly General Relativity), as well as its reconciliation with quantum mechanics in the elaboration of a quantum theory of gravitation, points to a negative answer to the first alternative, and leads them to deny the objective reality of time. For others, the answer is nuanced by the evidence of an emerging temporal property when one climbs the scales of the complexity of systems and/or the applicability of the statistical laws of thermodynamics. But for some, the illusion of the unreality of time comes from certain confusions that they denounce, and plead for the re-establishment of time at the heart of physical theories.

Book Description

One day fourteen-year-old Sophie Amundsen comes home from school to find in her mailbox two notes, with one question on each: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" From that irresistible beginning, Sophie becomes obsessed with questions that take her far beyond what she knows of her Norwegian village. Through those letters, she enrolls in a kind of correspondence course, covering Socrates to Sartre, with a mysterious philosopher, while receiving letters addressed to another girl. Who is Hilde? And why does her mail keep turning up? To unravel this riddle, Sophie must use the philosophy she is learning—but the truth turns out to be far more complicated than she could have imagined.

The Teleologies in Husserlian Phenomenology

The Teleologies in Husserlian Phenomenology PDF Author: Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400994370
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 481

Book Description
The following bibliography, arranged chronologically, permits the reader to follow the development of phenomenological studies in Italy in parallel with other, contemporary, cultural currents. From this list it can be seen that knowledge of Hussed's work begins in 1923 with the studies of A. Banfi. Phenomenology, however, did not immediately receive a warm welcome. It contrasted with the then dominant neo-idealism (as has been made clear by G. De Ruggiero), but for this very reason it also found adherents among the opponents of idealism. These were either distant heirs of positivism, who accepted Hussed on account of his scientific approach and rigor, or Christian oriented thinkers, who, following an initial period of diffidence toward the antimetaphysical attitude of phenomenological analysis, gradually began to use this method as an antiidealist instrument - even though the problem remained of Hussed's own transcendental idealism and the value to be attributed to it. Despite the difficulties encountered on the way, the numerous studies carried out in Italy prior to Wodd War II make it clear that the better known philosophers who have left a mark on Italian culture already had begun to take a discreet interest in phenomenology.
