James Owings (1792-1879), a direct descendant in the fifth generation, was born in Rowan (now Davie) County, North Carolina. He married Mary (Polly) Patrick in 1811, served in the War of 1812, and moved to land near Frankton, Indiana. The author was a direct descendant of James in the fifth generation. Descendants and relatives of Richard lived in chiefly in Atlantic and Mid-Western states, with some living in Washington, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Quebec, and progeny lived in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada.
