Book Description
The specific purpose of this study was to conduct an audit trace of the personnel and training subsystem development of the XMI Abrams Tank System as a case study of the major systems acquisition process. From this case study lessons learned from the XMI experience have been formulated which may be helpful in developing recommendations for improving personnel and training subsystem integration in the Army Life Cycle System Management Model (LCSMM). The scope of the study was restricted to personnel and training issues which occurred between program initiation and ASARC III. Other events in the XMI development process were included only if they had a major impact on personnel and training issues or were required to make the development process comprehensible. (Author).

Military Organizations, Complex Machines

Military Organizations, Complex Machines PDF Author: Chris C. Demchak
Publisher: Cornell University Press
ISBN: 1501723685
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
Chris Demchak explores the reasons why military machines surprise their users and how they can change both the complexity and effectiveness of tactical organizations. She uses the Army's experiences with its M1 Abrams tank, as well as other examples, to explain the interaction of complex technology and militaries that seek to control uncertainty. Under some conditions, Demchak demonstrates, complexity in critical machines induces increased complexity in the organizations that use them, and can produce an army different from the one that was intended. Drawing on organization theory and her data, she argues that understanding this interaction will heavily influence whether armed forces reductions, savings, and modernization produce rapid, successful military organizations or lethally unpredictable ones.

Transfer of Learning

Transfer of Learning PDF Author: Stephen M. Cormier
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483297373
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 302

Book Description
Since the mid-1970s, scientific and educational research has left a gap in the field of basic and applied research on transfer of learning. This book fills the gap with state-of-the-art information on recent research in the field, emphasizing methodological paradigms and interpretive concepts based on contemporary cognitive/information processing approaches to the study of human behavior. Issues discussed include how transfer is measured, how its direction and magnitude are determined, how training for transfer differs from training for acquisition, and whether different principles of transfer apply to motor, cognitive, and meta-cognitive processes.
