Personalized Treatment of Breast Cancer

Personalized Treatment of Breast Cancer PDF Author: Masakazu Toi
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 4431555528
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 381

Book Description
This book deals with the essential factors in the personalization of treatment for primary breast cancer. These include host issues, lymph node surgery, radiation therapy, and preoperative systemic treatment requiring specialized knowledge, multidisciplinary care experience, techniques, and research. Locoregional treatment in conjunction with systemic treatments is another important factor, with options for local therapy significantly affected by genetic BRCA mutation. Axillary treatment issues have become top priorities in recent primary breast cancer care, and these are highlighted in the book’s presentation of technological advances in lymph node mapping and diagnosis, axillary clearance in patients with nodal metastasis, and the role of axillary surgery. Attention is also given to locoregional treatment after preoperative systemic therapy. Because therapeutic impact differs depending upon biological characteristics such as tumor subtype, local therapy should be based both on tumor biology and on therapeutic response in parallel. Associated translational research and mathematical prediction tools such as nomograms also are introduced. This book provides the essence of primary breast cancer care, particularly its individualization with novel therapeutic concepts and strategies, and will greatly benefit physicians and clinical investigators in breast cancer institutions.

Diagnosing and Treating Adult Cancers and Associated Impairments

Diagnosing and Treating Adult Cancers and Associated Impairments PDF Author: National Academies Of Sciences Engineeri
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 9780309684002
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages :

Book Description
Cancer is the second leading cause of death among adults in the United States after heart disease. However, improvements in cancer treatment and earlier detection are leading to growing numbers of cancer survivors. As the number of cancer survivors grows, there is increased interest in how cancer and its treatments may affect a person's ability to work, whether the person has maintained employment throughout the treatment or is returning to work at a previous, current, or new place of employment. Cancer-related impairments and resulting functional limitations may or may not lead to disability as defined by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA), however, adults surviving cancer who are unable to work because of cancer-related impairments and functional limitations may apply for disability benefits from SSA. At the request of SSA, Diagnosing and Treating Adult Cancers and Associated Impairments provides background information on breast cancer, lung cancer, and selected other cancers to assist SSA in its review of the listing of impairments for disability assessments. This report addresses several specific topics, including determining the latest standards of care as well as new technologies for understanding disease processes, treatment modalities, and the effect of cancer on a person's health and functioning, in order to inform SSA's evaluation of disability claims for adults with cancer.

Modern European and Chinese Contract Law

Modern European and Chinese Contract Law PDF Author: Junwei Fu
Publisher: Kluwer Law International B.V.
ISBN: 904113459X
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
This comparative study of European and Chinese contract law opens a clear and practical way to identify and understand the differences between the two legal regimes. The author offers a detailed doctrinal comparison of the two systems of contract, focusing on the following fundamental elements: * the importance of socio-economic valuation in Chinese contract law; * the role of judicial interpretation; * pre-contractual liability - penalties for bad faith, disclosure versus concealment; * validity - mistake, fraud, threats, unfair bargaining power; * adaptation and termination - effect of registration and approval rules; * mandatory rules - good faith and fair dealing, the public interest; and * direct application of constitutional law to contracts. The book's special power lies in its extraordinarily thorough comparison of doctrines underlying specific provisions of such instruments as the Contract Law of the People's Republic of China (CLC), the General Principles of the Civil Law of the People's Republic of China (GPCL), the Principles of European Contract Law (PECL), and the Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR), as well as analysis of judicial cases.
