History of Perquimans County
Author: Ellen Goode Rawlings Winslow
Publisher: Genealogical Publishing Com
ISBN: 0806379960
Category : Deeds
Languages : en
Pages : 544
Book Description
Here is a county history that is extraordinarily rich in primary source materials, including abstracts of deeds from 1681 through the Revolutionary War period and, moreover, petitions, divisions of estates, wills, and marriages found in the records of Perquimans and adjacent North Carolina counties. Numbering in the tens of thousands, the records provide the names of all principal parties and related family members, places of residence and migration, descriptions of real and personal property, dates, boundary surveys, names of executors, witnesses, and appraisers, and dates of recording. Altogether, the index contains references to about 35,000 persons! Researchers should note that Perquimans was one of the original North Carolina precincts--with very close ties to the southeastern Virginia counties of Norfolk, Princess Anne, Nansemond, and Isle of Wight--and for many years had fluid boundaries with the North Carolina counties of Chowan, Gates, and Pasquotank.

Book Description
Nestled amidst rivers and streams in northeastern North Carolina, Perquimans County is at the heart of the historic Albemarle region. Dating to 1668, it was an important colonial settlement and the site of North Carolina's first organized religious service, a Quaker meeting. Yeopim Indians named the area Perquimans, which means "land of beautiful women." Water has always defined the region's way of life. Hertford, the county seat, is as relaxing and inviting as the winding Perquimans River that flows through it. Residents and visitors enjoy the breathtaking views and southern charm of this magical place.

Perquimans County, North Carolina Estate Files Index
Author: Jean Wood Paschal
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781512169614
Category : Decedents' estates
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This Perquimans County Index is the second volume in a series of indexes for the loose County Estate Record Files that exist for the inhabitants who died in northeastern North Carolina before 1945. One of the most useful resources for genealogical research on a specific ancestor and their immediate family is the discovery of his or her estate papers. Unfortunately, finding the records for an ancestor is not always easy to accomplish. If a genealogical researcher does not already know where their ancestor was living before his or her death, isolating an ancestor's estate records may be challenging. The county boundaries changed several times during the early years of the Colony's or State's existence. Depending on the approximate time when a death may have occurred, genealogical researchers may need to examine the estate records for several different counties in order to find the one associated with their ancestor. The names in this index are arranged alphabetically by surname using the exact spelling recorded on the original files at the North Carolina State Archives. Also included in this volume is any additional information written on the individual estate file folders as well as a cross index for the estate files that listed multiple names.
