Performance Factors for Circular, Hydrostatic, Gas-lubricated Thrust Bearings : Part II, Multiple Inlet Thrust Bearings PDF Author: Dudgeon, E. H

Category : Gas-lubricated bearings

Book Description
Procedures are described for the design of both orifice-compensated and inherently-compensated hydrostatic gas thrust bearings. A new empirical correlation for the compensation loss in inherently-compensated bearings is presented. The analytical predictions are compared with experimental results for a number of different single inlet thrust bearings over a range of parameters. The proposed design method is general and can be applied, using appropriate load factors, to multiple inlet thrust bearings. (Author).

Hydrostatic Lubrication

Hydrostatic Lubrication PDF Author: R. Bassani
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080875866
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 559

Book Description
Hydrostatic lubrication is characterized by the complete separation of the conjugated surfaces of a kinematic pair, by means of a film of fluid, which is pressurized by an external piece of equipment. Its distinguishing features are lack of wear, low friction, high load capacity, a high degree of stiffness and the ability to damp vibrations. This book reviews the study of externally pressurized lubrication, both from the theoretical and the technical point of view, thereby serving the needs of both researchers as well as students and technical designers. In this connection, design suggestions for the most common types of hydrostatic bearings have been included, as well as a number of examples. A comprehensive bibliography is included with each chapter providing up to date references for more in depth coverage.

Hydrodynamic Lubrication

Hydrodynamic Lubrication PDF Author: J. Frene
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080534317
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 499

Book Description
Hydrodynamic Lubrication is the culmination of over 20 years close, collaborative work by the five authors and discusses the practical use of the formalization of low pressure lubrication. The work concentrates on the developments to journal and thrust bearings and includes subjects such as: • the dynamic behaviour of plain and tilting-pads • the thermal aspects • the positive and negative effects of non-cyclindricity and shape defects resulting from manufacturing or operation • the effects of inertia • the appearance of Taylor's vortices and of turbulence and their repercussions. The book contains an abundance of test results objectively compared with theoretical conclusions and a chapter on "technical considerations" to ensure that draft mechanisms will work satisfactorily under the imposed conditions. Hydrodynamic Lubrication is an essential reference book for future and practising engineers who want to put hydrodynamic and hydrostatic journal bearings and thrust bearings into operation under conditions of total safety.
