Book Description
However, a lack of base stations results in difficulties in modelling the performance of such networks. There have been some investigations into the performance of ad hoc networks. Several areas that have not been considered are investigated. The effects of node density and system bandwidth is explored. It is shown that the performance of an ad hoc network can vary between two regimes depending on the bandwidth and density of the nodes. Many network models assume a uniform distribution of nodes. The effects of non-uniformity (clustering) are also studied. It is shown that clustering introduces two regimes on throughput performance which depends on the size of the network. Finally, the performance of an ad hoc network utilizing directional antennas is investigated. It is shown that a large increase in performance can be obtained. This performance increase can counteract the interference-related performance degradation of ad hoc networks for network sizes with thousands of nodes.

Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks PDF Author: Chansu Yu

Category : Ad hoc networks (Computer networks)

Book Description
The rapid development of wireless digital communication technology and the corresponding network software systems have created new horizons for communication beyond the Internet realising the connected society. Among them, the field of mobile ad hoc networking is experiencing unprecedented growth in its scale and application diversity. Without requiring the pre-existence of communication infrastructures, a temporary network can be established on demand and disappears when there is no need. Although some basic concepts have been identified and elaborated, the mobile ad hoc networking is still in its early stage of research and development. Multihop communication with dynamic topology caused by mobility poses interesting but unique challenges ranging from the network-layer connectivity problem to the link-layer capacity issue. And, it should not be considered as a natural extension of infrastructure-based networks, such as cellular networks and IEEE 802-11 networks, because it often leads to confusion and non-optimal design choices.

Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks

Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks PDF Author: Jing (Selina) He
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466556951
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 370

Book Description
Although wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been employed across a range of applications, there are few books available that cover the required algorithms, performance analysis, and applications of network management techniques in WSNs. Filling this need, this book presents new network management techniques that can address many of the shortcomings of traditional techniques. It summarizes traditional and classical network management techniques as well as state-of-the-art methods.

Resource Management and Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication Networks

Resource Management and Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication Networks PDF Author: Shunfu Jin
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811577560
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 466

Book Description
With the diversification of Internet services and the increase in mobile users, efficient management of network resources has become an extremely important issue in the field of wireless communication networks (WCNs). Adaptive resource management is an effective tool for improving the economic efficiency of WCN systems as well as network design and construction, especially in view of the surge in mobile device demands. This book presents modelling methods based on queueing theory and Markov processes for a wide variety of WCN systems, as well as precise and approximate analytical solution methods for the numerical evaluation of the system performance. This is the first book to provide an overview of the numerical analyses that can be gleaned by applying queueing theory, traffic theory and other analytical methods to various WCN systems. It also discusses the recent advances in the resource management of WCNs, such as broadband wireless access networks, cognitive radio networks, and green cloud computing. It assumes a basic understanding of computer networks and queueing theory, and familiarity with stochastic processes is also recommended. The analysis methods presented in this book are useful for first-year-graduate or senior computer science and communication engineering students. Providing information on network design and management, performance evaluation, queueing theory, game theory, intelligent optimization, and operations research for researchers and engineers, the book is also a valuable reference resource for students, analysts, managers and anyone in the industry interested in WCN system modelling, performance analysis and numerical evaluation.
