Diversity Combining for Frequency-hop Spread-spectrum Communications with Partial-band Interference and Fading

Diversity Combining for Frequency-hop Spread-spectrum Communications with Partial-band Interference and Fading PDF Author: Catherine Marie Keller
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
This report presents results on the evaluation of several diversity combining techniques that are suggested for frequency-hop (FH) communications with partial-band interference and fading. The analysis covers systems with M-ary orthogonal signaling and noncoherent demodulation. The partial-band interference is modeled as a Gaussian process, although some of the results also apply to general (non-Gaussian) partial-band interference. The performance measures we use to evaluate the diversity combining techniques are the narrowband interference rejection capability and the signal to noise ratio requirement over the entire range of interference duty factors. We evaluate the exact probability of error for each of the diversity combining techniques studied. The performance of the optimum combining technique for receivers with perfect side information is established. It is shown that for receivers with perfect side information, the system performance does not change significantly with the choice of the diversity combining technique. However, the same schemes that work well in receivers with perfect side information perform poorly in receivers without side information. Keywords include: Diversity combining; Frequency-hop; Spread-spectrum; Partial band interference and Fading.

Modern Communications Jamming Principles and Techniques

Modern Communications Jamming Principles and Techniques PDF Author: Richard Poisel
Publisher: Artech House
ISBN: 1608071669
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 895

Book Description
This edition features a wealth of new material on urban warfare, including a computer simulation of EW architecture alternatives for land-based forces based on urban constraints. It also includes an expanded section on time-hopped spread spectrum communications, more details on modern communication system technologies such as CDMA and OFDM, and an in-depth discussion on sources of urban noise. This practical resource is focused on showing the reader how to design and build jammers specifically targeted at spread spectrum, anti-jam communications. Moreover, it gives assistance in evaluating the expected performance of jamming systems against modern communications systems, and discover the best waveform to use to counter communication systems designed to be effective in jamming environments. While mathematical derivations in general are avoided, the book presents error rate performance equations for most modern digital anti-jam communication systems

Book Description
Benefiting from both time-domain and frequency-domain signal processing techniques, multicarrier systems have the potential for achieving high spectral-efficiency, high-flexibility and low-complexity wireless communications. Multicarrier techniques therefore constitute the promising techniques for implementation of future generations of wideband, broadband and ultra-wideband systems. Multicarrier Communications offers comprehensive and in-depth evaluation of numerous topics in the area, covering the fundamental principles of spread-spectrum and multicarrier CDMA as well as more advanced topics such as multiuser detection (MUD), multiuser transmitter preprocessing (MUTP), MIMO and space-time processing. It examines OFDM and various multicarrier CDMA within an unified framework and provides analytical approaches and formulas for error-performance evaluation of numerous multicarrier systems. Examines MUD and MUTP in parallel to illustrate the strong duality between receiver optimization and transmitter optimization Comprehensively establishes the theory of noncoherent MUD and noncoherent interference suppression Details the body of knowledge on MIMO theory and space-time multicarrier communications Contains tables, diagrams and figures to illustrate the performance results. Practicing electrical engineers and researchers in wireless communications will find Multicarrier Communications an invaluable guide. It will also be of interest to senior undergraduate and graduate students on wireless communications courses.

Adaptive WCDMA

Book Description
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is one type of multiple access system used in radio communication. Other multiple access methods include TDMA, FDMA, etc. WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is the main air interface used for third generation mobile communication systems - UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) and is characterised by a wider band than CDMA. WCDMA uses a wider radio band than CDMA, which was used for 2G systems, and has a high transfer rate and increased system capacity and communication quality by statistical multiplexing, etc. WCDMA efficiently utilises the radio spectrum to provide a maximum data rate of 2 Mbit/s. Third generation mobile communication systems are scheduled for operational startup in Japan and Europe in 2001-2002. Applying high-speed data transfer and state-of-the-art radio terminal technology, third generations systems enable multimedia and are currently in the process of being standardised under 3GPP. Among the three types of system to be standardised (i.e. WCDMA, MC-CDMA, UTRA TDD), Japan and Europe will adopt WCDMA in a strategy to take the lead through superior service. This volume will cover the latest theoretical principles of WCDMA and explain why these principles are used in the standards. Starting with a general overview, the more advanced material is then gradually introduced providing an excellent roadmap for the reader. * Presents comprehensive coverage of the theoretical and practical aspects of WCDMA * Provides a detailed roadmap by presenting the material step-by-step for readers from differing backgrounds * Systematically presents the latest results in the field Ideal for Engineers, academics and postgraduate students involved in research and development, engineers involved in management and administration.

Wireless Multimedia Network Technologies

Wireless Multimedia Network Technologies PDF Author: Rajamani Ganesh
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0306473305
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
This book is a collection of invited papers that were presented at the Ninth IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, September 5-8, 1998, Boston, MA. These papers are meant to provide a global view of the emerging third-generation wireless networks in the wake of the third millennium. Following the tradition of the PIMRC conferences, the papers are selected to strike a balance between the diverse interests of academia and industry by addressing issues of interest to the designers, manufacturers, and service providers involved in the wireless networking industry. The tradition of publishing a collection of the invited papers presented at the PIMRC started in PIMRC’97, Helsinki, Finland. There are two benefits to this tradition (1) it provides a shorter version of the proceedings of the conference that is more focused on a specific theme (2) the papers are comprehensive and are subject of a more careful review process to improve the contents as well as the presentation of the material, making it more appealing for archival as a reference book. The production costs of the book is subsidized by the conference and the editors have donated the royalty income of the book to the conference.
