Book Description
This book illustrates a kata named “Seienchin” by three methods. Front Section: Sequential pictures demonstrate the views in front of the kata performer: You can see stance, the name of stance, and the direction of movement. 4 Angle Section: Sequential pictures taken from four different angles around the kata performer: You can see the detail of each movement of the kata. Count Section: List of count (static) pictures. You can use this section when you do review for the kata. Traditionally, mastering karate kata took years of training and hard practice. Since the level of each lesson based on students' experience and belt color in most of the karate dojo, advanced kata could not be taught until they reached the advanced level. If students were interested in specific advanced level kata, they had to seek supplemental materials for self-learning. However, karate books in stores don't show us any detailed information because of its lack of illustration. Therefore, I published this book to support motivated self-taught karate students. The pictures in this book are taken from four views and all pictures are timely sequenced. Therefore, it should be easy to follow and learn accurate kata without going to dojo. Learning karate is like rubbing a magic lamp and conjuring the Genie. The karate Genie granted me much happiness through the benefits of health, youth, friends, physical security, self-confidence, income, and more. If I haven't had an opportunity of holding the lamp (means if I hadn't learned karate), I might not have any of these treasures and I might have had a very lonely insecure life. Now it is your turn to hold the magic lamp. You may be able to master kata to be a gold medal champion and keep your physical and mental health or manage your weight. Whatever is your purpose of learning kata (and karate,) set your goal high and proceed to read this book. When you accomplish your goal, you will feel like that Genie really came from the invisible magic lamp and to fulfill your dream.I hope karate enriches the quality of your life.

Perfection of Character

Perfection of Character PDF Author: Teruyuki Okazaki
Publisher: Gmw Pub
ISBN: 9780978576325
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
Master Teruyuki Okazaki, Chairman and Chief Instructor of the International Shotokan Karate Federation, is revered as one of the greatest karate masters of our time. At 75 years of age, he moves with the speed and grace of an athletic man in his twenties. He smiles broadly and laughs easily, defying the somber stereotype of a martial arts master. His warmth, humility, and understanding of the human condition are obvious to all who encounter him. "Karate practitioners and other martial artists must know that the martial arts are about more than physical development, self-defense, and competition; most importantly, they are about continually striving to perfect one's character," Master Okazaki explains. This is the message that Master Okazaki's own teacher, Master Gichin Funakoshi, the father of modern karate, most wanted to emphasize as well. To this end, Master Funakoshi articulated two sets of principles, the Dojo Kun, and the Niju Kun. The Dojo Kun are the five guiding, general principles of karate; and the Niju Kun are the twenty specific and subordinate principles of karate, which encompass morality, technique, and proper mindset. In this book, Master Okazaki draws out the deep and hidden wisdom from these seemingly simple principles in a light and lucid fashion, and emphasizes that the principles of karate are principles for living a peaceful, fulfilling, and happy life. This profound book is not just for karate practitioners and martial artists; it is a book for all who genuinely seek to become the best person they can be.

Five Years, One Kata

Five Years, One Kata PDF Author: Bill Burgar
Publisher: Martial Arts Pub Limited
ISBN: 9780954446604
Category : Sports & Recreation
Languages : en
Pages : 331

Book Description
This remarkable book gives the reader a unique insight into an amazing five-year study of a single kata (Gojushiho). It shows the depth that is waiting to be discovered by the close study of kata, covering an incredible range of subjects including: * imagery * the psychology of confrontation * the common acts of physical violence * vital points and how to exploit them * the methodology for the break-down and understanding of kata * the applications of the kata * the principles of karate and how to apply them * the applications (in detail) for each of the movements of Gojushiho * the major variations of each application * objective measurements regarding their practicality * how to link the applications together The author also explains how to undertake your own study using a single kata of your choice, and how to build a training regime based on the kata. If you have ever wondered what kata is really all about then this book is for you. When karate was a secret art, practiced in the back yards of Okinawa by a few dedicated masters and their disciples, it was usual to train in a single kata for many years. A master of karate would know just one, two or possibly three kata. Through the deep study of those few kata the master karateka would possess a complete self-defence system, he would be well versed in the underlying principles of karate and he would have a memory aid which would map out his complete training regime. Over the last century the practice of a single kata has disappeared from karate practice. The deep understanding of a few kata has been replaced by the superficial understanding of many. This book shows you in great detail how to recover that understanding and how to put kata back at the heart of karate. What leaders in the field have to say about the book: "Without question this book adds to the body of knowledge in the study of karate" - Rick Clark
