People Remembering Whitney Houston

People Remembering Whitney Houston PDF Author: The Editors of PEOPLE
Publisher: People
ISBN: 9781618930040
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Her's was a skyrocket of a life, a tale of beauty, soaring talent, and the risks of stardom. Whitney Houston was born to sing: Her mom, Cissy Houston, is a noted gospel singer; Dionne Warwick was her cousin, soul great Aretha Franklin her aunt. And she was beautiful: Before she ever had a big radio hit, a teenage Whitney was booking modeling gigs in major magazines. Legendary talent guru Clive Davis heard her sing in a club and signed her at 19; her first album, Whitney Houston, spawned three No. 1 hits and made her a staple on MTV. Seven years later, The Bodyguard made her a movie star. But at the height of an almost-unprecedented arc, something went wrong. Marriage to singer Bobby Brown coincided with a slip from the pinnacle; soon Houston was missing shows, behaving erratically and, eventually, admitting to drug problems. A comeback had started to gain traction-until, the night before the 2012 Grammy Awards, the 48-year-old star was found dead, of unspecified causes, in her Beverly Hills hotel room. Packed with photos and insight, People: Remembering Whitney Houston looks back on wonder, and drama, of a remarkable life.

Terpning

Terpning PDF Author: Howard Terpning
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780867131512
Category : Indians in art
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Terpning, the storyteller of the Plains Indians, presents his most important paintings of the past 35 years Howard Terpning is one of the most lauded painters of Western art and considered by many to be a national treasure. He is known as the "storyteller of the Native American" because of his devotion to and respect for his subject matter, almost exclusively the Plains Indian. He particularly favors the period beginning in the late eighteenth century when a Great Plains culture of Indians and horses thrived along with the buffalo. Passion, compassion, extraordinary talent in palette and brushstroke, and an exceptional ability to evoke emotion and narrative in his paintings have made his work rise to the top as he strives to keep alive the heritage and culture of Native Americans through the power of art. With more than 120 full-color paintings, this volume is the most comprehensive collection of Howard Terpning's work to date. The text by fellow artist Harley Brown provides a unique artist's view of Terpning's oeuvre through discussions of his colors, composition, inspiration, and sheer talent.

From Tribute to Communal Sovereignty

From Tribute to Communal Sovereignty PDF Author: Andrew Roth-Seneff
Publisher: University of Arizona Press
ISBN: 0816531587
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
From Tribute to Communal Sovereignty examines both continuity and change over the last five centuries for the indigenous peoples of central western Mexico, providing the first sweeping and comprehensive history of this important region in Mesoamerica. The continuities elucidated concern ancestral territorial claims that date back centuries and reflect the stable geographic locations occupied by core populations of indigenous language–speakers in or near their pre-Columbian territories since the Postclassical period, from the thirteenth to late fifteenth centuries. A common theme of this volume is the strong cohesive forces present, not only in the colonial construction of Christian village communities in Purhépecha and Nahuatl groups in Michoacán but also in the demographically less inclusive Huichol (Wixarika), Cora, and Tepehuan groups, whose territories were more extensive. The authors review a cluster of related themes: settlement patterns of the last five centuries in central western Mexico, language distribution, ritual representation of territoriality, processes of collective identity, and the forms of participation and resistance during different phases of Mexican state formation. From such research, the question arises: does the village community constitute a unique level of organization of the experience of the original peoples of central western Mexico? The chapters address this question in rich and complex ways by first focusing on the past configurations and changes in lifeways during the transition from pre-Columbian to Spanish rule in tributary empires, then examining the long-term postcolonial process of Mexican independence that introduced the emerging theme of the communal sovereignty.

The outstanding courage, determination, dedication, honesty, and sincerity made him an extraordinary person. Nothing was impossible in front of him. His willpower and self-discipline was powerful. A true inspirational life story and work of the Holy Spirit in Fr. Thomas Plathottam (Father Tom). ENDORSEMENTS while reminiscing about Father Tom who was an amazing priest and pastor, religious and missionary, able administrator and efficient coordinator; he left an indelible imprint in our hearts and minds by being number one in our congregation in hospitality and welcoming. He was full of energy and enthusiasm, drive and initiative, courage and daring. He kept himself totally busy, day in and day out, always doing something for others even to the extent of going out of his way It was too early for him to go from our midst and for us it is a tremendous loss indeed! I can proudly state that this is a man who completed the work of two to three lifetimes in the short span of life he lived here on this earth. Fr. Joe Karikunnel, CST New York That hard work rooted in the grace of God and constant readiness for it are the distinctive characteristics of priestly ministry in modern times, is the message that Fr. Plathottam has to hand over to the next generation. Fr. George Kalladanthiyil, CST Germany
