Pedestrian Behavior
Author: Harry Timmermans
Publisher: Emerald Group Publishing
ISBN: 1848557507
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 359
Book Description
Studies of pedestrian behaviour have gained attention in a variety of disciplines. Different technologies have been used to collect data about pedestrian movement patterns. This book aims to document these developments in research and modelling approaches. It includes modelling approaches such as cellular automata models and fluid dynamics.

Investigation of Exposure Based Pedestrian Accident Areas
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Pedestrian accidents
Languages : en
Pages : 156
Book Description
Previous FHWA research on pedestrian exposure identified four problem areas as promising candidates for accident reduction: intersections without marked pedestrian crosswalks, major arterial streets, local streets, and locations lacking sidewalks or pedestrian pathways. This report describes the results of a project undertaken to examine those four problem areas. The objectives of the project were to: evaluate past research on pedestrian crosswalk markings and develop guidance for when and what type of crosswalk markings should be provided; investigate traffic engineering improvements for major arterial streets to increase pedestrian safety; investigate traffic engineering improvements for local streets to increase pedestrian safety; and examine existing guidance/warrants for the provision of pedestrian pathways and sidewalks and prepare revised guidance/warrants.

Models of Pedestrian Crossing Behavior at Signalized Intersections
Author: Srinivas Palamarthy
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Alleys
Languages : en
Pages : 108
Book Description
This report focuses on the crossing behavior of pedestrians at traffic signalised intersections. Since a non-compliant pedestrian attempting to cross on a "don't walk" phase looks for gaps in the traffic stream, the gap-acceptance theory is used to model the crossing maneuver. An inconsistent behavior model is assumed wherein the critical gap is treated as a random quantity varying both within and across individuals. On-site surveys were conducted to obtain information on the behavior using a video recording technique
